WASHINGTON, DC: Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) is under scrutiny for failing to disclose earnings from her latest book 'MTG' which chronicles her time in Washington.

Greene's memoir has been published by Winning Team Publishing, a company co-founded by Donald Trump Jr and Sergio Gor, also known as 'the Mayor of Mar-a-Lago'.

Marjorie Taylor Greene fails to disclose profits from her book

"The company hawks books by right-wing influencers like Charlie Kirk, Steve Bannon, and even former President Donald Trump," the Daily Beast reported.

"Winning Team is currently selling one bundle that includes Trump’s coffee-table book and other signed swag for $999 a pop. Greene’s book is far more affordable — $30 for a regular edition, $49.99 signed. But the personal financial disclosure Greene filed with the House this spring does not mention the book, Winning Team, or a royalty agreement."

Despite Greene's office stating that her book deal was cleared by the House Ethics Committee and no earnings required reporting in 2023, critics argue this exemption could only apply if earnings were under $200.

Maybe Greene’s memoir didn’t sell well enough to make money last year but watchdog groups like Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington insist that anticipated royalties should still be disclosed.

According to Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington's Robert Maguire, “Even if she hasn't received any royalty payments, my understanding is that she's required to report anticipated royalties in some way,” per Raw Story

Before her election, Greene gained notoriety for spreading controversial conspiracy theories such as QAnon and claims about Jewish space lasers. Initially, she enjoyed proximity to GOP leadership under former Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA). However, following McCarthy's ousting and replacement with Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), Greene criticized Johnson for allowing Ukraine defense aid to proceed. She even attempted to initiate a vote for his removal, but Democrats intervened, blocking the effort.

Nevertheless, similar issues arose with Rep Lauren Boebert (R-CO), who also omitted book royalties from disclosures, citing advice that payments had not been received.

Marjorie Taylor Greene faces backlash over undisclosed book profits

Greene's failure to disclose book royalties has added fuel to ongoing debates about financial transparency among congressional members and sparked controversy.

A social media user tweeted, "She spent the money at the local bar."

Another added, "You mean somebody bought that rag?"

A third tweeted, "#Greene made a profit on it? Shock #VoteBlueProtectDemocracy."

"Is $0 considered profit?" read a tweet.

"She made a profit from that garbage?" read a tweet.

"Just like Clarence Thomas, she forgot," penned an individual.
