Mark Wahlberg says he's looking forward to 'playing a grandfather soon' and isn't afraid to 'embrace old age'
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Mark Wahlberg is not afraid to embrace his “old age”; in fact, he is looking “forward to playing a grandfather soon.”
The 52-year-old actor spoke about his philosophy of embracing old age during a promotional event for his Apple TV+ film, ‘The Family Plan’.
The actor, who recently moved his entire family to Nevada for a quieter life, said during the interview, "I'm a dad now — embracing my old age. A lot of guys my age in the business would probably say, 'Well, that character has grown kids or kids in their late teens. I don't want to play that role.' I'm embracing that.”
The ‘Shooter’ actor is married to Rhea Durham, and are proud parents of their children - Ella, 20, Michael, 17, Brendan, 15, and Grace, 13.
The actor even went a step ahead and said that he is ready to take on the role of a grandfather too, saying, "I look forward to playing a grandfather soon," per OK! Magazine.
Mark Wahlberg says he is ‘working harder now than ever’
The Boston native further added that of late he is taking up several behind-the-camera roles as well, including production.
He said, "Well, I'm certainly working harder now than ever," before explaining, "Certain businesses, you kind of build them, pass them on or you exit.”
He went on to say, “Hopefully my kids, we’ll see what their interests are, but I don’t think that I’ll be acting that much longer at the pace I am now. That’s for sure. Because that’s the most difficult thing.”
He continued to explain the reason for his venturing into production saying, "The reason why I started producing is I didn't want to sit around waiting for Brad Pitt or Tom Cruise, or whoever was already, you know, established before me and were the guys at the time — and Leo [DiCaprio], right — to go and pass on a movie, until I could get my hands on it.”
'I'm enjoying getting older'
Wahlberg has always maintained that he is very open to aging. Even during an interview in 2013, he said to Courier Mail about aging, "I just embrace it. Also, I make sure I eat right and exercise."
He continued, "Life is a beautiful thing, so you might as well try to make it last as long as possible."
"My wife [Rhea Durham] is always giving me a hard time about getting older, but I have to say I'm enjoying getting older; at least, I'm enjoying the age I am now," concluded the 'Ted' actor.
