NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: In the upcoming Netflix documentary 'Martha', Martha Stewart candidly explores her time behind bars, unveiling surprising details that have left many shocked.

The 83-year-old lifestyle icon, who spent five months at Alderson Federal Prison Camp in West Virginia in 2004, clarified any misconceptions surrounding the so-called 'Camp Cupcake'.

Martha Stewart asserts her prison experience was anything but cupcake

Though it may have a lighthearted nickname, Martha Stewart's prison experience was far from easy.

One of the most distressing moments she recounted was a 24-hour stint in solitary confinement due to a minor incident, as per Marca.

“I was dragged into solitary for touching an officer,” Stewart recalled in the documentary.



 

“No food or water for a day. This was Camp Cupcake, remember? That was the nickname. Camp Cupcake. It was not a cupcake.”

Directed by RJ Cutler, 'Martha' chronicles Stewart's emotional journey throughout her time in incarceration.



 

The film showcases letters Martha wrote during her 150-day sentence in federal prison in 2004 for lying to investigators about a stock trade, emphasizing the daily challenges she encountered.

She also criticized the meals, calling them unhealthy and a far cry from the standards she was used to.

“There are many starches and many carbs, many fat foods. No pure anything. Everything was terrible,” Stewart expressed.
