WASHINGTON, DC: Tennis legend Martina Navratilova is facing online backlash for her remarks about President Donald Trump’s military operation to arrest Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro. Navratilova called Trump “insane” and described his actions as “completely illegal,” claiming he is committing criminal acts through the Venezuela intervention.

While many Venezuelans have celebrated the US seizure of Nicolas Maduro, citing humanitarian concerns and restrictions on personal freedoms under his rule, Navratilova took a different view.

Navratilova criticized the recent US intervention, calling it “pillaging” in a series of posts on Saturday, January 3. She directly targeted President Donald Trump, responding to a Fox News clip in which Trump said, “This incredible thing last night… We have to do it again. We can do it again, too. Nobody can stop us.”

She later reacted to the same clip again, accusing Trump of seeking unchecked power. “He wants to be the king of the WORLD!” she wrote.

In another post, Navratilova doubled down, accusing Trump of committing criminal acts through the Venezuela intervention.

Maduro, who assumed power in 2013 after serving as vice president under Hugo Chavez, now faces charges including narco-terrorism conspiracy, cocaine importation conspiracy, possession of machine guns and destructive devices, and conspiracy to possess those weapons against the United States.

Martina Navratilova criticized online for Trump remarks

Navratilova’s remarks about Trump’s Venezuela strikes quickly sparked criticism on social media.

One user wrote, "Please go back to playing and talking about games. You have no credibility as a political pundit. Sit down."

Another shared, "Not it’s not lol. It’s a shame y’all hate Trump more than you love your fellow man. Again why did you leave your country?"

An X user tweeted, "Looks perfectly legal to me. They dotted the i's and crossed the T's. You are mostly wrong about everything. Mostly."

A Trump supporter slammed, "How is it insane and illegal??? Maduro had a $50M bounty on him, stole billions in private company assets, kidnapped Americans, was head of the Cartel of the Sun and WAS INDICTED! There is specific precedent for this. Prove your claim or shut up you wack job!"

Another user wrote, "Sorry. He’s got more brains than you! What have you ever done. I hope he runs in 2028."

A person mocked, "Yeah, let's listen to the carpet munching washed-up tennis player. Go play with your balls, now you may block me."

A commenter explained, "Trump exercised the Monroe Doctrine @Martina. America has been operating on that principle for over 200 years. Perhaps you don’t know American history. If the Monroe Doctrine is objectionable to you, perhaps you and America are not a good fit. Perhaps it’s time to leave."
