'Our science bros': Marvel fans happy as Robert Downey Jr and Mark Ruffalo reunite for 'Actors on Actors'
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: In an exciting twist for Marvel enthusiasts, iconic "science bros" Robert Downey Jr and Mark Ruffalo reunited for Variety's first installment of 'Actors on Actors' recently.
The dynamic duo, known for their roles as Tony Stark/Iron Man and Bruce Banner/The Hulk in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), delved into their latest projects during the engaging conversation.
Robert Downey Jr thinks Mark Ruffalo is 'bangable'
Adding a playful touch to the conversation, Downey Jr teased Ruffalo about his daring nude scene in Yorgos Lanthimos' 'Poor Things', referring to it as the "ultimate risk" for an actor.
"I was like, 'Do I have to?'" Ruffalo shared about filming the scene. "All I can hear is, 'Nobody wants to see your old a-- anymore..I mean, it’s my least favorite part of it, but I also saw it as an extension of the physical comedy that we were already finding," he added.
RDJ said, "I just want to say this, too, because knowing you forever, on one of these Avengers movies, you take off your shirt, and you were in really good shape. And the director was like, 'We got it.' You’re like, 'Can I please stop dieting and working out now?'"
"There is no one I’ve ever come across who is more anxious to not be vain past the point where it is necessary to achieve an end for their work," he added.
"Was that a compliment?" Ruffalo questioned. "It’s a huge compliment," Downey Jr claimed, adding, "But I’ve got to say, you look pretty bangable to me, in case you were wondering."
Reflecting on their Marvel experiences, the actors shared candid moments, admitting to the challenges of deciphering the complex jargon their "science bros" characters often spouted on-screen.
Ruffalo humorously confessed, "We didn’t know what that was, what that meant." Downey Jr chimed in, "It’d be really hard to dig in. I mean, we would just drive each other insane on set going, why can’t I retain this?"
Will Robert Downey Jr make a comeback as Iron Man?
While fans may have hoped for a superhero resurrection, Marvel president Kevin Feige recently clarified that there are no plans to bring back Downey Jr's Tony Stark, who met his heroic end in 2019's 'Avengers: Endgame'. However, this revelation did little to dampen the excitement surrounding the reunion.
Nevertheless, Marvel fans are undoubtedly rejoicing at this unexpected reunion, savoring the chemistry and camaraderie that made Downey Jr and Ruffalo fan favorites in the MCU. A user tweeted, "They finally got justice they deserved."
Another added, "The content I'm most looking forward to watching , our science bros."
"The science bros tumblr are rejoicing as we speak," a third tweeted.
"Legends Made most of our childhood," read a tweet. "Wow, is there any better pairing??? I doubt," stated a user.
