Matt Damon set to join Jennifer Lopez in Ben Affleck's absence at ex-couple's 'Unstoppable' premiere
TORONTO, CANADA: Although Ben Affleck's genuine sports drama 'Unstoppable' will have its international premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2024, Jennifer Lopez will not be in the same room.
Affleck, 52, one of the movie's producers, will not be walking the festival's red carpet, but Lopez, 55, who plays a supporting part in the movie, is expected to attend the September event in person, according to sources who spoke with People. Meanwhile, Matt Damon, who is also a producer, will be there at the premiere.
Jennifer Lopez will make appearance after her split from Ben Affleck
The drama is produced by Artists Equity, which Ben Affleck and Matt Damon co-founded, and stars Jharrel Jerome, Bobby Cannavale, Michael Pena, and Don Cheadle.
Lopez is set to make the appearance after her divorce from Affleck, following less than two years of marriage. She claimed their irreconcilable differences as her reason for separation and listed April 26 as the date of their separation.
Jennifer Lopez attended the Met Gala alone
Ben Affleck joined Jennifer Lopez on the red carpet for her 'This Is Me...Now: A Love Story' project in Los Angeles on February 13, but then she attended the Met Gala alone on May 6.
Affleck's representative said at the time that the reason for his absence was a scheduling difficulty because he was filming 'The Accountant 2' on the West Coast.
Later, Lopez appeared on several red carpets by herself to promote her critically acclaimed sci-fi movie 'Atlas' on Netflix, which had an LA debut on May 20.
Ben Affleck and his Artists Equity production are also behind Jennifer Lopez's next movie
The next musical film 'Kiss of the Spider Woman', starring Jennifer Lopez, is also produced by Ben Affleck under the Artists Equity label. A description of the film on the official TIFF website teases, "At home, he contends with a mother going through some growing up of her own. Jennifer Lopez, too often underrated, is terrific here."
William Goldenberg, an editor who worked with 'Affleck on Air', 'Gone Baby Gone', and 'Live By Night', is directing the picture. He was awarded an Oscar for his work on the 2012 film 'Argo'. 'Unstoppable' opens in Toronto on September 6.
Lopez portrays the mother of real-life wrestler Anthony Robles in the film 'Unstoppable'. Robles was born without a leg and went on to win an NCAA national championship in 2011.
Internet praises Matt Damon for joining 'Unstoppable' premiere with Jennifer Lopez
Netizens praised the Hollywood actor for supporting the singer during her difficult time as he will join her in the premiere of her upcoming movie in Toronto. One X user tweeted, "Nice! Jlo is a very professional actress! glad that Matt will be accompanying her!"
Another added, "Because of course he will. No one expected Ben to step up & to show up for her. God forbid he be professional about a movie his wife put her heart and soul into. He’s too dang old to be acting this immature." "Great. Matt has always been a supporter anyway. No use messing up her night with his presence," remarked someone else.
"That’s good to hear. I was just thinking, while eating breakfast this morning, about whether or not Ben would be there. At least I can sleep tonight," said someone else.
