MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN: The Republican National Convention aimed to showcase party unity, but a clash between Matt Gaetz and Kevin McCarthy stole the spotlight, as reported by The Daily Mail.

Captured by NewsNation's Joe Khalil, Gaetz taunted McCarthy on the convention floor, reigniting their long-standing feud in a dramatic public display. The tension between Gaetz and McCarthy is nothing new. Gaetz's derogatory remarks during the convention were just the latest in a series of confrontations.

As McCarthy was being interviewed, Gaetz interjected, "What night are you speaking? If you took that stage, you would get booed off of it. You’d get booed off the stage!" The moment, shared widely on social media by Gaetz's aide, was a stark reminder of their tumultuous past.

Gaetz, known for his provocative style, had previously launched the motion to vacate that ultimately cost McCarthy his position as Speaker of the House.

McCarthy, reflecting on his ouster, pointed fingers at Gaetz during an April talk at Georgetown University titled 'How Strong Is Our Democracy?'

He claimed, "It's because one person, a member of Congress, wanted me to stop an ethics complaint because he slept with a 17-year-old. Did he do it or not? I don't know."

Gaetz quickly responded on X, branding McCarthy a "liar" and attributing his removal to a lack of trust, evidenced by the 224 votes against him. This public spat highlighted the deep-seated animosity between the two Republicans.

The backdrop to this conflict includes multiple ethics investigations into Gaetz. The House Ethics Committee first opened an investigation in April 2021, which was paused when the Department of Justice began its own inquiry.

Although the DOJ ultimately decided not to bring charges, the House Ethics Committee resumed its probe into Gaetz's conduct.

Adding to the controversy, ABC News reported newly uncovered text messages from May 2017. These messages allegedly show Gaetz soliciting a young woman, who was associated with his now-imprisoned friend Joel Greenberg, to join him and others on a trip to the Florida Keys.

McCarthy, the first Speaker in history to be ousted mid-term, has not held back in his criticism of Gaetz and the other Republicans who voted against him. In February, McCarthy suggested that Gaetz, who is married, "lies about who he sleeps with," intensifying their personal feud.

A third user wrote, "So, drunk Matt Gaetz is a douche, too. Noted." Another user commented, "He's trying to be the popular guy at a frat party and everyone else is trying to ignore him."

One user posted, "He’s going to meet a bad end. Guys like that often do. He’s not smart enough to accumulate power and thus protection. He’s brash and cocky and that’s what’s going to end him."

Another user mentioned, "Gaetz reminds of the kid that got picked on and nobody respected despite his best efforts to appear relevant."

A seventh user stated, "That is how a man who is scared of the truth coming out behaves." Lastly, a user said, "If Matt Gaetz isn't the most repulsive individual in a House of Representatives, he's definitely in the top three along with Jordan and Comer. Boebert and Greene don't count, they are simply unqualified."
