Matthew Perry’s mother reveals he wished ‘to be well’ before death in heartfelt birthday tribute
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: 'Friends' actor Matthew Perry's untimely passing has not yet settled with his fans, especially his family. Even years later, they continue to remember him, particularly on his birthday.
On the actor's birthday, Perry's mother, Suzanne Morrison, remembered her late son and shared what he wanted during the final days of his life.
She couldn't hold back her feelings and said she 'terribly misses' her son 'every day'. Along with the emotional tribute, Morrison shared a monochrome picture of herself and Perry on Instagram.
Matthew Perry’s mother remembers him on 57th birthday
On Wednesday, August 19, the Matthew Perry House shared a heartfelt tribute from the 'Friends' actor's mother. She shared an old family photo of Morrison feeding Perry when he was a baby.
“August 19th. It’s his birthday. Matthew was born 57 years ago today, a day that I feel as keenly as if (it) all happened this very morning,” she wrote. “Along with all the days he struggled, and the days he hid his addiction from the world, and even from me.”
“Sweet, loving, funny, cantankerous, pig-headed Matthew, who wanted - so much - to be well,” she continued. “I miss him terribly. All the time. Every day.”
“And I hear him saying over and over in those last days of his life, ‘I just want to help people like me, stuck in the disease of addiction,’” she continued. “He can’t anymore. But we can. And with your help, we will.”
Matthew Perry’s death at 54 and lasting legacy
It has been three years, and it seems Perry's fans and loved ones are still holding on to memories of the actor. Perry died at the age of 54 from an accidental overdose.
At the time of Perry's death, his family shared, “We are heartbroken by the tragic loss of our beloved son and brother,” the family said. “Matthew brought so much joy to the world, both as an actor and a friend.”
Perry's mother also shared a victim impact statement ahead of the sentencing of Kenneth Iwamasa. In that statement, she called Perry her "heart and my soul." “Ask any mother whose child has been torn away so mercilessly,” she wrote.
“Nothing takes this pain away, nor will it, I am sure, for as long as (I) live.” It has been years, and his 'Friends' co-stars still remember him, as do his fans.
