Meghan Markle insists on how she should be addressed, reveals Invictus Games CEO
LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM: The newly appointed CEO of Invictus Games, Scott Moore, revealed how he was informed to address Meghan Markle before their first meeting earlier in 2024.
The new CEO of Invictus Games got advice that strayed from the usual protocol for addressing former senior members of the royal family, per the New York Post.
Scott Moore says Meghan Markle insists on being addressed as 'Ma'am'
Scott Moore said earlier, according to Mirror, "I did make sure to ask how I should be addressing them when they get here." He was informed that a simple 'Ma’am' is fine for Markle and was told to address Prince Harry as 'Sir'.
The instructions seemed different from how male members of the Firm are addressed upon first meeting. Male royals are first addressed 'Your Royal Highness', followed by 'Sir'. Female members of the royal family are addressed as 'Your Royal Highness', followed by 'Ma’am'.
However, the couple quit their royal life in 2020 and moved to the US. The decision prompted them to lose their HRH titles, per the outlet. This implies that the couple now cannot be addressed as 'Your Royal Highness' even though the pair have held on to their Duke and Duchess of Sussex titles.
Prince Harry insists on informality and being addressed by his name
Prince Harry famously insisted on informality during a tourism conference in Edinburgh back in 2020 and even told that to the event’s host, Ayesha Hazarika.
She told the audience at the time, per BBC News, "He’s made it clear that we are all just to call him Harry."
During the couple's February 2024 trip to Vancouver, they took time to connect with the Invictus community on Valentine's Day and joined participants for winter sports training.
The event, named the “One Year to Go” celebration, spanned three days and allowed members of the international Invictus community to participate in many winter sports in preparation for the 2025 games.
The Vancouver event will build on the success of the 2023 games which were held in Germany.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's first Halloween in 2016 was spoilt by phone call
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle celebrated their first Halloween together back in 2016 and it did not end as planned. They were spending time together along with Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank in Soho House in Toronto.
Authors Carolyn Durand and Omid Scobie mentioned in the biography 'Finding Freedom' that Harry and Markle were having the "perfect" evening at Soho where a Halloween party was taking place.
The authors added, "A cocktail or so into the party, they were both feeling relaxed, absorbing the Halloween spirit. It was possibly the perfect night out - until they received a call from one of Harry's aides at Kensington Palace..."
Harry was informed that a newspaper found out about Harry and Meghan's relationship and had planned to go live with a story the next day.
Prince Harry also wrote about the incident in his memoir 'Spare' that "everything was rendered moot" the day after the party when news of their relationship broke.
