SANTA BARBARA, CALIFORNIA: Neighbors Meghan Markle and Oprah Winfrey came forward to encourage and support authors in a 'surprising appearance' at a bookstore launch near their California homes.

The former senior royal member was a speaker at the grand launch of Godmothers bookstore in Summerland, California, on Saturday, September 7, as reported by PEOPLE.

The publication reported that Meghan donned a Club Monaco’s sleeveless navy blue tuxedo jumpsuit for the event.

“Most light-filled evening of speakers…” author Laura Lynne Jackson wrote on her now-disappeared Instagram Story featuring the Duchess of Sussex.

Apart from Meghan and Winfrey, author Shaka Senghor, the co-founders bookstore, Jennifer Rudolph Walsh and Victoria Jackson, and astrologer Jennifer Freed were present at the event.

Walsh reportedly shared, “We celebrate our hometown authors as if they were our hometown heroes because to us they are.”

Though Prince Harry was not present at the bookstore opening, his book ‘Spare’ was included on the shelves.

“The Duke and Duchess of Sussex moved into their family home in July of this year. They have settled into the quiet privacy of their community since their arrival and hope that this will be respected for their neighbors, as well as for them as a family,” a spokesperson said at the time.

In 2021, the couple even gave a bombshell interview to Winfrey that made their relationship with the royals much worse.

Netizens call Meghan Markle ‘grifter’

Meanwhile, people have reacted online to Meghan’s appearance alongside Oprah Winfrey at the bookstore.

A Facebook user wrote, “She is trying so hard to be relevant.”

Another user said, “Of course, she would ..She is so attention seeking.”

The third one remarked, “Two shady characters.”

The fourth user mentioned, “She's doing everything for a bit of highlight.”

“Grifter at ‘work’ again,” the fifth user stated.

An individual commented, “Not exactly an A-list red carpet event with 100s of photographers, but Oprah was there so she knew her ‘surprise appearance’ would still get her some free press coverage.”

The second individual added, “Wanted to make sure to tell everyone about Harrys book as well.”

“Did she invite herself or seriously somebody sad invited her - just to keep herself in the limelight,” a comment read.

Another comment said, “Oh yes, I’m sure it was very planned. Very big surprise!! I’m sure it was also very well publicized prior to the surprise. Also, I’m still waiting for my pot of jam and I’m not joking.”
