NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Conservative commentator Megyn Kelly attempted to turn 'Tampon Tim' into a trending term over the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday, August 7. However, the effort spectacularly backfired on the former Fox News host, as she found herself on the receiving end of serious trolling.

"Tampon Tim is the name. That’s it," she wrote on X, retweeting a post that stated, "Biden was Obama’s dead weight. Kamala is Biden’s dead weight. Tampon Tim is Kamala’s dead weight."

The moniker referred to Minnesota Gov Tim Walz (D), who was announced as the Democratic vice presidential candidate by the party nominee and incumbent Vice President Kamala Harris on Tuesday, August 6.

Why is Tim Walz being nicknamed 'Tampon Tim'?

According to The Hill, Walz has been dubbed Tampon Tim by former president Donald Trump's campaign and MAGA supporters about a state bill he signed in 2023 that made it compulsory for public schools to provide free menstrual products in all bathrooms.

The Minnesota law went into effect at the beginning of 2024 and mandates menstrual products, including pads, tampons, and other items, “must be available to all menstruating students in restrooms regularly used by students in grades 4 to 12 according to a plan developed by the school district.”

Conservatives in the state were shocked by the decision to provide gender-affirming care and labeled Walz a "radical liberal." While state GOP lawmakers had pushed back on the legislation at the time, they ultimately failed to amend the bill to apply only to girls’ bathrooms.

With Walz being named Harris' running mate in the upcoming election, they are now hoping to weaponize the issue once again.

Megyn Kelly gets slammed online

The host of the podcast 'The Megyn Kelly Show' earned a terrible backlash over X, where her tweet was slammed by users, including medical professionals. Netizens also hailed Walz for passing the bill, as the following examples demonstrate.

"Imagine being upset that someone didn’t want kids leaking menstrual blood onto their clothes. You are pro period poverty, which seems to me to be very anti Christian. Would Jesus have said, 'Let them leak blood onto their clothes because they deserve it?'" posted Dr Jennifer Gunter, an OB-GYN in Canada, retweeting Kelly.

"So you think children should be forced to menstruate without these products in school? What is wrong with you weirdos? Get a life," stated Ryan Marino, MD.

"Tampon Tim sounds like Santa Claus but for periods. Like on the night before you start bleeding he visits your house and leaves baskets of menstrual products under your sink. We should sing carols about him," shared another user.

"Does MAGA not understand #TamponTim isn't an insult? When did a Man making sure young girls aren't bleeding through their clothes at school become a problem? You mean he doesn't want them embarrassed & able to focus in class? You clowns put them on your ears a few weeks ago," jibed yet another.

"Epically based, ma'am. We need a strong leader who will finally ban tampons," mocked a person.

"Ah yes, because wanting to provide school-aged girls with readily accessible menstrual products is so wrong 🙄 Remember when you were relevant? No, me either," chided a fourth.

"Tampon Tim is his name. Blocking red waves is his game," cheered a fifth user.

"If that's the best you have, Trump is going to lose," quipped yet another.

"Calling Walz 'Tampon Tim' for putting free tampons in bathrooms for women is not the sick burn they think it is. He’s a legend. He’s an icon. And he IS the moment," read a tweet on the topic slamming conservatives.
