WASHINGTON, DC: First Lady Melania Trump delivered a first gentleman jab during her speech on Thursday, May 8, as she announced the new Barbara Bush commemorative stamp at the White House.

She made the jab moments after President Donald Trump lauded her earlier speech at the Celebration of Military Mothers, and posted on his Truth Social account, per the Irish Star.

During the later part of her speech, Melania Trump said, "Who knows? Somewhere out in this audience may even be someone who will one day follow in my footsteps and preside over the White House. And I wish him well," garnering chuckles from the people who gathered for the unveiling of the stamp.

Ironically, President Trump won against two of the most recent female candidates for president — Hillary Clinton and Kamala Harris.

Melania also took time to emphasize Bush's feminist messages, her fight for gay rights, the equal representation, and the family values Bush had in her life, per the outlet.

The first lady told the crowd, "Barbara Bush's iconic commencement address at Wellesley College in 1990 remains an important moment in the conversation surrounding women's role in society."

"Her message, which emphasized the importance of family and personal integrity, encouraged women to carve their own paths in life," she stated.

Melania also mentioned, "Mrs Bush exclaimed, 'Your success as a family — our success as a society — depends not on what happens at the White House but on what happens inside your house.'"

She further stated, "The first lady further inspired the audience by highlighting the importance of pursuing personal dreams, stating, 'The winner of the hope race will be the first to realize her dream — not society dreams, her own personal dream.'"

Melania Trump dubs Barbara Bush's call for first female president a 'forward-thinking vision'

During the speech, Melania Trump dubbed Barbara Bush's call for the first female president a "forward-thinking vision", as she reiterated her calls for women to be represented in every facet of American society.

The first lady said, "I applaud Mrs Bush's mark defending our society's vital need for women across all avenues — whether CEO or homemaker. We have, can and will build better families and run innovative businesses at the same time, ultimately shaping a brighter future."

She added that Bush's legacy is marked by her respect for tradition while also breaking with convention.

"While she is known for championing literacy, she also supported women's empowerment, changed the national conversation on AIDS, and took a stance supporting gay right," Melania mentioned.
