WASHINGTON, DC: First lady Melania Trump has always been known for her fashion sense, from designer outfits to signature handbags. Recently, she promoted the launch of a new handbag meant to represent “unity” and “giving back.”

The promotion drew widespread attention online, with many criticizing the luxury price amid an ongoing cost-of-living crisis. The focus also turned to the bag’s creator, Alexandra Gucci Zarini, whom Melania enthusiastically endorsed. According to Zarini’s post on X (formerly Twitter), the bag retails for $2,800.

Melania Trump’s Unity Bag debuted amid growing political tension in the US. An October survey from The New York Times and Siena University found that 64 percent of registered voters believe the country is too divided to resolve major political issues, up from 42 percent in September 2020, near the end of Trump’s first presidency.

Tensions also exist within the MAGA community, as some supporters distance themselves over disagreements with decisions taken during Trump’s second administration. This political environment likely amplified reactions to the bag promotion.
