WASHINGTON, DC: First lady Melania Trump has issued a formal legal threat to Hunter Biden, accusing the former president’s son of making “false, defamatory” statements linking her to late financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

According to an August 6 letter obtained by Fox News, Melania’s attorney, Alejandro Brito, warned that unless Biden retracts his comments and issues a public apology, she will pursue damages “in excess of $1 billion.”

The dispute stems from an August 5 appearance by Hunter Biden on the YouTube program Channel 5 with Andrew Callaghan.

In the interview, Biden alleged that Jeffrey Epstein was the one who introduced Melania to Donald Trump. “The connections are, like, so wide and deep,” the former president’s son said at the time, a claim earlier popularized by author Michael Wolff, whom Brito has labeled a “serial fabulist.”

In the letter obtained by Fox News, Florida attorney Brito warned Hunter and his lawyer, Abbe Lowell, that if they failed to comply, Mrs Trump would be left with “no choice but to pursue any and all legal rights and remedies available to her to recover the overwhelming financial and reputational harm that you have caused her to suffer.”

Brito accused Hunter of exploiting the names of others — “including your surname” — for personal gain, arguing that this pattern made it clear he had spread false and defamatory remarks about Mrs Trump purely to attract attention. He went on to convey Melania’s demands that Hunter “immediately issue a full and fair retraction of the Video” and “immediately issue an apology for the false, defamatory, disparaging, misleading, and inflammatory statements.”

Melania’s legal team said the allegation is baseless and damaging, accusing Biden of exploiting her name to gain attention.

The demand letter warned that failure to retract by 5 pm EST on August 7 would result in immediate legal proceedings. “If you do not comply with the above by August 7, 2025, at 5:00 pm EST, Mrs Trump will be left with no alternative but to enforce her legal and equitable rights, all of which are expressly reserved and are not waived, including by filing legal action for over $1 Billion Dollars in damages,” the lawyer said, adding, “You are on notice.”

James Carville issues public apology to Melania Trump after legal threat

Veteran Democratic strategist James Carville has formally apologized to first lady Melania Trump and removed part of a recent Politics War Room podcast episode following a letter from her legal team.

The dispute centered on a July 31 discussion with journalist Judd Legum, in which Carville commented on and posted a video about alleged links between Melania, President Donald Trump, and Jeffrey Epstein.

The segment, taken from a July 31 discussion with journalist Judd Legum, appeared in a YouTube upload titled “James Carville: The EPSTEIN Connection – TRUMP & MELANIA.”

According to Carville, both the headline and his comments drew objections, leading his team to remove the YouTube clip, revise the podcast episode, and release a public apology.

“After the episode, we received a letter from Melania Trump’s lawyer. He took issue with our title of one of those YouTube videos from that episode and a couple of comments I made about the first lady,” Carville explained.

In the original clip, Carville described Melania as a “key figure” in the Trump-Epstein controversy and speculated about the role of modeling agencies connected to both men.

A spokesperson for the first lady said her legal team is “ensuring immediate retractions and apologies by those who spread malicious, defamatory falsehoods,” and pointed to her memoir Melania as the definitive account of how she met Donald Trump.

The Daily Beast has withdrawn a July article linking Melania Trump to disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein after receiving a formal complaint from her legal team.

The now-removed piece had cited claims by author Michael Wolff, who alleged during a July 26 episode of 'The Daily Beast Podcast' that Melania was “very involved” in Epstein’s social circle and first met Donald Trump in 1998 through Paolo Zampolli, founder of ID Models — a figure with connections to both Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell.

Melania’s attorney argued that the article’s “headline and framing” were false and defamatory, prompting the outlet to remove it and issue a public apology. In its statement, The Daily Beast expressed regret for any “confusion or misunderstanding” caused by the reporting.
