WASHINGTON, DC: The White House has reportedly confirmed that First Lady Melania Trump will not attend the revived White House Correspondents’ Dinner (WHCD) on Friday, July 24, ending speculation over whether she would accompany President Donald Trump to the high-profile event.

Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio are also skipping the gathering because of previously scheduled commitments.

Melania had attended the original White House Correspondents’ Dinner in April alongside President Trump when the evening took a dramatic turn.

Authorities say an armed man forced his way through a security checkpoint at the Washington Hilton before law enforcement officers intercepted him, preventing him from reaching the ballroom where administration officials, journalists and invited guests were gathered.

Although no senior officials were physically harmed, the incident unfolded close enough to trigger an emergency evacuation.

Footage from inside the venue showed the president being rushed from the room, while Melania appeared visibly shaken as the situation unfolded.

Speaking afterward, President Trump acknowledged how deeply the episode had affected his wife.

"I don't want to say, and people don't like having it said that they were scared, but certainly, I mean, who wouldn't be when you have a situation like that?" he said during an interview with CBS' '60 Minutes'.

The first lady was later seen at the White House alongside administration officials, where observers noted she still appeared unsettled hours after the shooting.
