Melania Trump’s life away from Donald takes centerstage in legal dispute
WASHINGTON, DC: First Lady Melania Trump faces renewed scrutiny after author Michael Wolff claimed she spends much of her time in New York rather than living alongside President Donald Trump.
His remarks have raised fresh questions about her living arrangements and role in the White House, though his claims about where she spends most of her time have not been independently established.
The controversy stems from a legal dispute between Wolff and Melania over his comments about her alleged connections to Jeffrey Epstein. Political commentator David Pakman has also questioned the couple’s separate routines, while an earlier report suggested Donald was comfortable with his wife maintaining an independent lifestyle.
Michael Wolff claims Melania Trump spends most of her time in New York
Wolff discussed Melania’s living arrangements on his YouTube channel while addressing his legal dispute with the Trump family.
According to the Irish Star, court documents challenged the suggestion that Florida was the First Lady’s primary residence.
"This week, we have filed papers in court which point by point describe that Melania Trump lives in New York," Wolff stated.
He claimed Melania spends much of her time in New York City, about 225 miles from the President, and questioned whether she was regularly present to support her husband’s work.
"She does not live in Florida, and she does not live side by side with her husband," Wolff claimed.
"She is not supporting the people's work or her husband's work. Rather, she is in New York City, virtually on a full-time basis, living the life or trying to live the life of a superstar. Melania the movie. Melania the New Yorker."
These remain Wolff’s claims, not independently established findings about Melania’s residence.
However, his remarks have brought renewed attention to how she divides her time between her private life and public responsibilities as First Lady.
Melania Trump’s legal dispute with Michael Wolff involves Jeffrey Epstein
The disagreement over Melania’s residence is linked to a separate legal dispute involving Wolff’s comments about her alleged association with Epstein.
Melania threatened to sue the author for defamation over remarks concerning her supposed connections to Epstein.
Wolff then filed his own lawsuit, seeking a court declaration that his statements were legally protected before Melania could pursue her threatened action.
"My lawsuit against Melania Trump is important because it's a way to get to the bottom of the Trump-Epstein relationship," Wolff said.
Melania has strongly rejected suggestions that she was friends with Epstein, stating, "The lies linking me with the disgraceful Jeffrey Epstein need to end today."
She also said she has "never been friends with Epstein."
Wolff’s lawsuit suffered a setback in May when US District Judge Mary Kay Vyskocil rejected his attempt to obtain an early legal ruling.
The judge reportedly found that the case had been brought prematurely because Melania had not filed the defamation lawsuit Wolff wanted the court to address.
"That is not how the federal courts work," Vyskocil told Wolff.
She described his lawsuit as "preemptive" and filed in a "somewhat contorted posture."
The judge also rejected his attempt to invoke legal protections designed to prevent lawsuits that suppress public participation.
Criticizing his decision to file in New York before possible proceedings in Florida, she called it "textbook bad-faith forum shopping."
David Pakman questions how closely Melania and Donald Trump live
Wolff is not the only commentator to raise questions about the couple’s separate routines.
According to The Blast, political commentator David Pakman questioned their relationship after Melania spoke about her husband’s work schedule during a September 23 appearance on "Fox & Friends."
"He works nonstop. He has the most energy than anybody. He's from morning until evening nonstop working," Melania said, praising Donald’s dedication.
Pakman questioned how she could describe the President’s daily routine if they spent considerable time apart.
"How would Melania know that Trump is working from morning until evening?" he asked.
He described her as "very independent from Donald Trump" and said there was "reason to believe she's completely estranged" from her husband.
These were Pakman’s interpretations, however, and do not establish that the couple is estranged.
Donald Trump has reportedly accepted Melania Trump’s independent lifestyle
An earlier report offered a different perspective on the couple’s separate schedules, suggesting Donald was comfortable with Melania spending time away from him.
According to OK! Magazine, a political source close to Donald, who was then a former president, said Melania often spent time with her relatives while he followed his own routine.
At the time, Melania was photographed visiting Trump Tower in Manhattan while Donald was in Bedminster, New Jersey.
"Melania and her own family do many things together and not necessarily with Donald," the source said.
The insider added, "Donald is fine with that as long as she is satisfied, leaves him alone, and makes appearances when needed."
The account portrayed Melania as someone who preferred family time and privacy over constant public attention.
Although the comments predate Wolff’s latest claims, they suggest that the couple’s separate routines may reflect a longstanding arrangement rather than necessarily indicating marital difficulties.
