Michael Byrne dies at 82
Byrne died on June 20 at the age of 82, with news of his passing announced on June 30. The cause of his death has not been disclosed. He is survived by his wife of more than six decades, actress Carole Nimmons, their daughters Tara and Bryony, and three grandchildren.

Born in London in 1943, Byrne trained at the Central School of Speech and Drama before embarking on a career that would span more than 60 years.
Though he was never one to chase leading roles, he became one of Britain's most admired character actors, earning the respect of colleagues and audiences for bringing authenticity to every performance.

From the stage to Hollywood blockbusters, Byrne built a remarkable career that touched generations of viewers. He began with Laurence Olivier's National Theatre Company before making his mark in acclaimed war dramas including 'The Eagle Has Landed', 'A Bridge Too Far' and 'Force 10 from Navarone'.
Millions later came to know him as Colonel Ernst Vogel in 'Indiana Jones' and as the imprisoned older Gellert Grindelwald in 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1'. A role that Johnny Depp later took on in the 'Fantastic Beasts' franchise
His credits also included 'Braveheart', 'Tomorrow Never Dies', 'Gangs of New York', 'Apt Pupil', and 'Battlefield Earth', while his television work ranged from 'Coronation Street and Casualty' to 'Midsomer Murders' and 'Wallander'.
For those unaware of his television career, the British actor began working in the 1960s with early appearances in 'No Hiding Place', 'Silent Playground' and 'ITV Saturday Night Theatre'.
