WASHINGTON, DC: Former First Lady Michelle Obama ignited online speculation after she was accused of taking Ozempic, a weight-loss drug. The controversy followed behind-the-scenes footage from a photo shoot with renowned photographer Annie Leibovitz, shared on Instagram over the weekend, in which Obama appeared noticeably slimmer.

Michelle Obama highlighted the significance of the shoot, writing on November 21, “Annie Leibovitz has always known that a photo can do more than preserve a moment — it can say something.” She added, “Her book Women did exactly that, expanding how we see women and the lives they lead through her lens. It was an honor to be photographed by Annie for the new edition, capturing the many ways women are showing up today. I hope you’ll find it as inspirational as I do.”

In the images, Obama wore a gray T-shirt, jeans, and brown suede boots, showcasing toned arms and a taut stomach. The sudden change in her appearance quickly prompted speculation that she had used Ozempic or similar GLP-1 medications.

“Ozempic – just like everyone on The View who suddenly decided to ‘get healthy,’” tweeted one user. “I’m not knocking it – but for Christ’s sake – be honest about it!”

Another commented, “GLP-1. They have the money, they don’t have to worry about insurance covering it and jumping through those hoops. The boomerang weight gain will be vicious… among other issues with that stuff.”

“This is not the same body structure from the person at the White House,” another observer wrote, while one user noted.

A user wrote, “It’s one of the GLP-1 meds. They’ve certainly helped me when nothing else really did. It’s interesting people are showing off the results without crediting the method. Taking the medication isn’t cheating. Not telling people with your struggle what you did is unfair.”

One user wrote, "Michelle has the Ozempic look they all get."

Michelle Obama has openly discussed her own weight changes. In 2022, she reflected on the weight she gained during menopause, telling People, “I never used to weigh myself. I’m not trying to stick to numbers, but when you’re in menopause, you have this slow creep that you just don’t realize.”

She added, “We’re all in menopause with stretchy bands, and our athleisure wear on, and you look up, and you can’t fit the outfits you had last year. I have to be more mindful, not obsessive, but more mindful.”

Earlier this month, Obama revisited her health and aging, stating, “My health has always been paramount. What I eat, working out, I go to regular doctor’s visits. I do all the things that I’m supposed to do, because I value my health, and that also allows me to enjoy this time, because I’m not achy, I’m not sore, I’m not sick. I’m as vibrant as I’ve ever been.”
