WASHINGTON, DC: House of Representatives Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) defended GOP nominee Donald Trump's health during an interview with NBC News host Kristen Welker on the Sunday, October 13 episode of 'Meet the Press.'

According to the Associated Press, Vice President and Democratic nominee Kamala Harris, 59, released a summary of her medical history and a clean bill of health from her doctor the previous day. Her campaign intends to draw a contrast on the subject with 78-year-old Trump, who is the oldest major party nominee to run for the White House in the history of the United States.

Mike Johnson comments on Donald Trump's health

When Kristen Welker asked Mike Johnson if former president Donald Trump should release his medical records, he strongly opposed her and blamed Kamala Harris for creating a 'diversion' with the issue.

“Should Donald Trump release all of his medical records, Mr Speaker?” the host asked Johnson directly, to which he replied, "He (Trump) issued the records of his physicians. Kamala Harris issued her medical records as a diversion because she’s desperate because she’s sinking in the polls. Donald Trump’s health is on display. Everyone in America can see it.”

The Speaker went on to sing high praises of Trump's health, stating, "The man works non-stop. He never quits. He probably sleeps four hours a night. He doesn’t require as much sleep as the average person – he’s an unusual figure."

“This is the strength that we need in a time like this. We’re in the most dangerous moment since World War Two, you have to have strength, you have to have a steady hand, you have to have a commander-in-chief that our allies respect and our enemies fear. They do not fear Kamala Harris. They do fear Donald Trump.”

Welker pointed out that Trump had released only two letters from his doctor and not his medical record, which Johnson claimed was "unnecessary."

"You don’t want to know about things like his cholesterol level, whether he’s dealing with any issue we may not know about if he’s going to become commander-in-chief. He also said he would release cognitive tests which he aced. Should he release that?” asked Walker moving forward with her line of questioning.

“The American people don’t care about the cholesterol level of Donald Trump. They care about the cost of living and the fact they cannot pay for groceries because Kamala Harris and Joe Biden’s policies have put them in that situation. The medical records are irrelevant,” Johnson responded, adding, “Let’s talk about the things the American people care about. That’s why Donald Trump is surging in the polls because he’s doing that on stages, in interviews non-stop around the clock.”

Internet trolls Mike Johnson for being a 'submissive Trump lackey'

Netizens reacting to the interview segment on the social media platform X trolled Johnson for his take. The following tweets demonstrate their views.

"Mike Johnson is just a pathetic, submissive Trump lackey," wrote a user.

"Being 78 should be more of a reason to release medical records, and there seems to be a lot of wanting to not release so now it looks hella sus," stated another.

"North Korean level of spin here," jibed someone else.

"Never a more perfect example of a deceitful human that blatantly hides behind the facade of piety," shared a user.

"By that logic, let’s eliminate all IQ tests, because everyone can see clearly how stupid Mike Johnson is," mocked another.

"Donald Trump appears unfit to operate a vehicle, let alone steer the direction of a country," chided yet another.
