MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA: A viral clip from Friday, December 5, shows Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey plopped at a Somali restaurant, bravely battling a bowl of rice and beans like his life depended on it.

The apparent PR move seems to be a part of an ongoing damage-control tour led by Governor Tim Walz, Frey, and other Minnesota Democrats attempting to charm Somali residents in the midst of an alleged welfare fraud scandal.

In the clip, Frey is flanked by a couple of Somali diners as he digs into a “traditional Somali meal” to prove just how deep his affection for their culture goes.

Jacob Frey accused of 'virtue signaling' as he tries Somali cuisine

MAGA supporters made a mockery of Frey's apparent performative virtue signaling on social media.

"He's trying so hard not to spit it out LMAO," one laughed on X.

"Yes white man, eat our bean pile," another quipped.

"When you keep chewing because you can’t swallow but if you keep chewing you’re going to throw up," someone else offered.

"Lol anyone who's been forced to eat something by their parents that they hated has done this exact same thing. This is how you stomach things down in a house where food doesn't go to waste," a comment read.

"Virtue signaling all the time has to be an awful way to live!" another chimed in.

Trump torches the Somali community

The mayor’s bean-bowl photo-op came as President Donald Trump publicly unloaded on Somali immigrants in Minnesota. He recently called Somali immigrants “garbage” and demanded fierce crackdowns.

When a White House reporter asked him about Frey’s defense of Somali residents, Trump said, “I wouldn’t be proud to have the largest Somalian – look at their nation. Look how bad their nation is. It’s not even a nation. It’s just people walking around killing each other. Look, these Somalians have taken billions of dollars out of our country. Billions and billions.”

Then he turned to Rep Ilhan Omar, insisting she “should be thrown the hell out of our country” and should never have been allowed to serve in Congress. Meanwhile, he branded Minnesota Governor Walz “crooked” and “incompetent.”

“Those Somalians should be out of here. They’ve destroyed our country. And all they do is complain, complain, complain,” Trump continued.

“You have her – she’s always talking about ‘the constitution provides me with uhhhh.' Go back to your own country and figure out your constitution. All she does is complain about this country, and without this country, she would not be in very good shape. She probably wouldn’t be alive right now. Somalia is considered by many to be the worst country on Earth. I don’t know. I haven’t been there, I won’t be there anytime soon, I hope,” he added.

In another instance, he said, “They contribute nothing. I don’t want them in our country, I’ll be honest with you,” warning that “we’re going to go the wrong way if we keep taking in garbage into our country.”

“These are people who do nothing but complain,” he continued. “They complain, and from where they came from, they got nothing … When they come from hell and they complain and do nothing but b***h, we don’t want them in our country. Let them go back to where they came from and fix it.”

City leaders scrambled to respond. Frey and other officials held press conferences rejecting Trump’s comments. In front of cameras, he vowed Minneapolis police would refuse to cooperate with federal immigration raids aimed at Somali neighborhoods and insisted the city “stands with” its Somali residents.
