MLB star Bobby Witt Jr weds high school sweetheart Maggie Black, calls it ‘best night of our lives’
DALLAS, TEXAS: MLB star Bobby Witt Jr married his longtime girlfriend Maggie Black at the Thompson Hotel in Dallas on Saturday, December 14, reported People.
The Kansas City Royals shortstop met the personal trainer when they were in high school and began dating since.
Their wedding was a grand affair with 300 guests in attendance, which included the entire Royals team and MLB all-stars Andrew Benintendi, Whit Merrifield, Cole Ragans and Rusty Greer.
"We had been boyfriend and girlfriend for so long that it’s exciting for both of us to now get to call each other husband and wife. We are just super excited to finally be married," Black told the publication.

Inside Boddy Witt Jr and Maggie Black's 'fun' wedding
Bobby Witt Jr and Maggie Black worked with event planner Leslie Ochs of Alice and Apricot Weddings to plan their special day. According to the bride, "It made it super stress-free with us being busy during baseball season. She kept us on track so all we had to do was show up and enjoy."
“We told (Ochs) that we wanted our wedding to be fun and something that our friends would never stop talking about. Our goal was to throw the party of the year," she shared.
Explaining how they went about with the event, the planner told People, “Bobby loves bold patterns so I incorporated a lot of fun pattern play into the overall design of the event. There were so many fun details throughout the design that incorporated Bobby’s love for baseball and Maggie’s personality with the warm and classy atmosphere.”
While the couple was keen to get married in a church, they settled for the hotel to simplify logistics but turned the ballroom into a makeshift chapel with custom stained-glass windows.
Maggie Black's 'perfect' wedding dress
Looking resplendent in an Elizabeth Lee Bridal gown and Christian Louboutin shoes, Maggie Black walked down the aisle to meet Boddy Witt Jr, who sported a custom State & Liberty tuxedo with velvet Christian Louboutin loafers and a two-tone Rolex Daytona watch.
“I knew I did not want sparkles or lace, so I had somewhat of a vision in my head before walking into the bridal boutique. Alongside the designer, I brought my vision to life into the perfect wedding dress,” Black shared with the publication.
The ceremony was officiated by Black’s stepbrother Ryon Phillips, and the processional featured several of the couple’s favorite worship songs.
For the reception, the bride switched to a second look by Elizabeth Lee Bridal, paired with Golden Goose sneakers, and the groom followed suit in a white dinner coat and white sneakers.
The final treat of the night
The guests were in for another surprise following the ceremony, as a team of more than 100 people secretly set up a replica Whataburger restaurant in the venue, celebrating the couple's emotional connect to the place.
Witt Jr and Black used to hang out at their local Whataburger outlet after games while dating in high school, and the baseball player presently has a partnership with the brand.

The pop-up was aptly named Witt-a-burger and offered guests all of Witt Jr and Black’s favorite menu items.
Black summed up the entire experience by stating that it was the “best night of their lives".
“I wish we could do it again!” she said, adding that she was looking forward to having “a lifelong partner through the good, the bad, and everything in between".

“For me, (marrying Black means) having my lifetime person and best friend to be with for the rest of my life,” stated Witt Jr. “I love who she is as a person, how kind she is to every person she talks to, and how she lights up a room when she walks in it.”
The couple noted that they were excited to travel "somewhere tropical" and "unplug and spend quality time with each other on the beach," while hinting at "expanding our family one day!”
