NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Hosts Whoopi Goldberg, Sara Haines, Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin, and Alyssa Farah Griffin welcomed Robert Downey Jr on the January 27 episode of 'The View' to congratulate him on his third Academy Award nomination for Christopher Nolan's 2023 film 'Oppenheimer'.

"Doubly wonderful to be breaking the news here with y'all," said Downey as Goldberg congratulated him.

The actor had been previously nominated for his 1992 film 'Chaplin' and 2009 flick titled 'Tropic Thunder'. Downey claimed that he was grateful for not winning the first two times. He said, "I was young and crazy," and winning “would have put me under the impression that I was on the right track.”

"Whoopi remember," said Downey, to which the co-host agreed and said, "We were on those tracks together."

What was Robert Downey Jr's reaction on first getting the news?

Hostin praised the actor's performance as Admiral Lewis Strauss in the film, saying that she was not surprised at all by the nomination.

She asked Downey to share his own reaction to the news at first, to which, he responded, "I walked downstairs, past our somewhat moody cat, Montgomery. I was looking at Susan (his wife) who was finishing her morning meditation, and she didn't say anything."

"So I just went into the kitchen. I think she wanted to give me an opportunity to have a coffee before we interacted," he added.

As Griffin brought up the topic of the strong bond that the cast shares, Downey said that he was "so happy for all 13 nominations (for the movie) but I couldn't believe that it was Emily Blunt's first Oscar nomination."

"We're all just folks, so I think she was like dropping her kids off at school, and Krasinski (her husband) was on the phone, and he pulled her away from some other parent to let her know… It's a really big deal," the 'Avengers' star added.

"We became really close during the shoot, and I think the promotion has been great," he continued, before adding, "Of course, there was the strike, so we weren't really able to have the full experience."

"But seems like the movies are back, it seems like kinda something like normal. So we're just happy that we get to celebrate," he concluded.
