NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: MSNBC host Rachel Maddow joined Sunny Hostin, Whoopi Goldberg, Sara Haines, Joy Behar, and Alyssa Farah Griffin on the Tuesday, June 18 episode of 'The View,' where she accused the US Supreme Court of corruption.

The discussion at the Hot Topics table revolved around the ethical concerns with SCOTUS, specifically surrounding Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito. While the former faced criticism for accepting gifts from GOP donor Harlan Crow, the latter was embroiled in controversy for flying an upside-down American flag outside his home in the weeks following the Capitol riots of January 6, 2021.

Rachel Maddow's comments on the SCOTUS

Speaking of preserving the legal system in the United States, Maddow remarked that "the Supreme Court is flagrantly corrupt," taking co-host Hostin by surprise.

As Hostin repeated the statement for clarification, Maddow doubled down on her stance, saying, "I work at MSNBC. If there was a member of my family lobbying the White House chief of staff, saying, ‘overturn this election result,’ you think they’d let me cover that election result, let alone give a binding judicial ruling on that election result?"

Her remarks were a reference to Justics Thomas' wife Ginni, who reportedly sent texts to then-White House chief of staff Mark Meadows urging him to challenge then-President Trump's 2020 election loss, according to Fox News.

"The blatant corruption of a couple of these Supreme Court justices is John Roberts' problem. He is the chief justice, he has to police it to save his court and to save the legal system," she stated.

Co-host Beharshared that she found Roberts "iffy," arguing that SCOTUS had effectively provided Trump immunity despite not issuing a ruling on his immunity claim, "because they’ve already delayed things so long that the stuff that he did in 2020, he’s not going to be tried for before he potentially gets back in the White House."

Internet slams Rachel Maddow for her comments

"Rachel Madcow is flamingly corrupt," a user reacted over the social media platform X (formerly Twitter).

"Socialists will turn against institutions if they stand in their way to keep gaining power. This kind of talk comes very close to being treasonous," stated another.

"Only from her bigoted perspective," jibed a third.

"Yep, when something doesn’t align with you, it’s corrupt," mocked a fourth user.

"The Left feels their grip on power slipping away and are desperately trying to hold onto it," quipped a fifth.

Another added, "Why can’t they sue her for this comment?"
