COLUMBIA, SOUTH CAROLINA: Republican Rep. Nancy Mace sharply criticized Minnesota Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar over comments she made on social media. The remarks came in response to a post shared by Mace that mocked Omar regarding the reported death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

The clash unfolded amid heightened tensions following United States–Israel airstrikes on Iran on Sunday, March 1, which reportedly eliminated the supreme leader. The episode intensified debates over American foreign policy, religion in political discourse, and partisan rhetoric.

“My heart goes out to Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib tonight. Sending them thoughts and prayers,” Mace wrote on X.

During an interview on Newsmax, the host referenced President Donald Trump and raised Omar’s response on X to Mace’s earlier post. Omar had written, “I hope you aren’t drunk and took your staff’s advice. Rashida and I don’t know this man and feel confident he didn’t care about us. Please restrain from drinking too much."

She continued, “As you've been warned from your staff, stay off social media. I pray in this holy month, you find peace and respect for yourself.”

The host also noted that Omar appeared to object to the timing of the strike during Ramadan and referenced intelligence suggesting there was a “target of opportunity” to eliminate the Ayatollah and other leaders. The discussion also mentioned Rep. Rashida Tlaib, describing her criticism of both the US and Israel over the operation.

Mace responded forcefully, “Well, I don't give a damn if it's Ramadan. I don't care if Muslims are fasting right now. This was the right time with the right intel, the right president to go in there and do this, and he'll have his chance to explain it or his secretaries to Congress.”

She questioned Omar’s past reactions, stating, “Where was she when Jews were slaughtered? Over 1,000 Jews were slaughtered in Israel by Hamas on a Jewish holiday. I don't remember her complaining about that.”

Nancy Mace says she is ready to ‘denaturalize and deport’ Ilhan Omar

Mace further escalated her remarks, saying, “When she said that very defamatory statement about me in the middle of the night, by the way, what was she doing in the middle of the night? But I asked her what it was like to be married to your brother."

She added, “She has no room to attack anyone on any issue, quite frankly, and I'm ready to denaturalize and deport her to Somalia.” The host replied, “Let's go. There you go. You've said that before, and it sounds like you mean it.”

The exchange began after Mace’s initial post referencing the reported death of the Iranian supreme leader was widely interpreted as ridicule directed at Omar and Tlaib, who have been vocal critics of the Israeli government’s military actions against Palestinians.
