VANCOUVER, CANADA: Nelly Furtado found herself in the midst of online backlash after sharing a lighthearted selfie video with Meghan Markle and Prince Harry at the Invictus Games.
The 46-year-old singer, who performed at the event, posted the clip set to her iconic hit 'I'm Like A Bird', seemingly capturing a playful moment with the former working royals, as per Daily Mail.

In the video, Nelly Furtado leaned in close to Meghan Markle, both grinning for the camera, while Prince Harry strolled past in the background with a serious expression.
The contrast sent the two women into fits of laughter, with Furtado playfully blowing kisses.
Sharing the moment with her followers, she captioned the post, "They’re beautiful, that’s for sure, @meghan @weareinvictusgames."

But while Furtado appeared to be having fun, many fans weren’t amused.
The backlash was swift, with some branding the interaction as, "Beyond cringe."
Someone else noted, "Nelly you don't Wanna be hanging out with these two. You're so much more classier than them. Seriously."
A viewer remarked, "Wow. You've sold out. Those 2 imposters."
One comment declared, "Stop it they don’t want attention 🙄"
Another observed, "NELLY!! NOOOOOO!!!!! Get other friends you don’t want to be associated with people like that. You have no idea 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️"
As one person explained, "The disaster tourist, grifters."
Reportedly, several users even threatened to unfollow Furtado for associating with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
"Oh no !! You’re friends with her ? Unfollow," one comment read.
Another added, "Sorry Nellie must unfollow you. Careful with the company you keep. 😏"
Prince Harry delivers powerful speech at Invictus Games amid cringy selfie video
Despite the social media uproar, the Invictus Games continued in Vancouver, marking the first time winter sports were included in the competition’s history.
The event, founded by Prince Harry in 2014, gathered over 500 competitors from 23 countries, all of whom were wounded, injured, or sick servicemen and women.
At the opening ceremony, Harry took to the stage to deliver a powerful speech about unity and resilience.

With Markle watching from the stands, he spoke of a "sacred obligation" to support veterans, drawing from his own decade-long military service.
He told the crowd, "In this moment of difficulty and division in many parts of the world, we gather here in Vancouver in a spirit of unity. We represent 23 nations. Speak many different languages and reflect the full breadth of the world's religions and faiths. Beyond any differences, here at the Invictus Games we are grounded in mutual respect, competing fiercely, but believing in one another. Supporting one another. And rooting for one another."

Harry reflected on the Games' origins, recalling a promise he made to himself to champion wounded servicemen and women.
He continued, "Over the past decade, I've lost count of the times we've heard you tell us that the Invictus Games saved you. Respectfully, I disagree. Invictus didn’t save you. You saved yourself."
The Duke and Duchess were also seen showing a rare public display of affection, sharing a couple of intimate moments that were caught on camera.
