HOUSTON, TEXAS: Monica, the 43-year-old R&B singer, collapsed on stage during her concert in Houston, Texas, on Sunday, December 30.

TMZ reported that the 'So Gone' singer passed out at the side of a stage with a member of a crew carrying her away in a video obtained from concertgoers.

Fans react to Monica’s fainting incident

Some fans, who attended the concert, shared their concerns and speculations on X, formerly known as Twitter.

One account tweeted, “The Houston streets are talking! They’re saying Monica left in an ambulance after passing out by the stairs.

"They say she came out late; 10:35 and people were walking out by 11:05…concert goers do say something seemed off. Praying," another one said.

Other fans wondered if the 'New Life' singer was dehydrated, low on sugar, or had her drink spiked by someone. Some even joked that it was Brandy, her former duet partner, who was behind the incident.

“Was it diddy spiking her drink,” one fan commented, to which another replied, “Nope. It was Brandy.” Another fan wrote, “Brandy did it.”

However, not all fans were amused by the jokes. Some expressed their love and prayers for Monica, and advised her to take a break and drink more water.

“I hope she is okay she may have been dehydrated hopefully that’s all it is. We need so much water daily, especially if you are performing,” one fan wrote.

“She probably didn’t eat….low sugar,” another suggested. “Love her,” one more fan said, “Prayers up.” another added.

Monica and Brandy’s history

Monica and Brandy are both famous for their 1998 hit song 'The Boy Is Mine', which stayed at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart for 13 weeks, according to BuzzFeed.

The song earned them a Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group in 1999, the only Grammy that either of them has won so far.

The song sparked rumors of a rivalry between the two singers, which they have denied over the years.

They collaborated again in 2012 for the song 'It All Belongs to Me', and performed together at the 2012 Billboard Music Awards.

Monica’s health condition

Monica’s fainting episode could have been more serious than it seemed, as she has a heart condition called mitral valve prolapse.

This is when the valve that separates the upper and lower chambers of the heart does not close properly, which can cause blood to leak back into the upper chamber.

Monica revealed her condition in 2016, in an interview with Huff Post. She said that she first experienced it when she was 18 years old, while she was on tour.

She was singing her song 'Angel of Mine' in Washington DC, when she started to lose consciousness.

“Everything in front of me basically began to go from color to black-and-white, fading in and out,” she said.

“I walked to the side of the stage to ask for help and collapsed into one of our staff people’s arms.”

She said that she has learned to manage her condition with medication and lifestyle changes, but she still has to be careful.
