Nick Cannon labels himself 'lupus warrior' as he gives an update on his ongoing battle with the disease
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Nick Cannon shared a health update with his followers by posting an image on his Instagram Stories from his ongoing treatment as he continues to fight the autoimmune disease lupus.
The star captioned the post, “Constant reminder that health is the real wealth!!!" the 'Masked Singer' host added along with the hashtag "#lupuswarrior.”
What happens to a person with Lupus disease?
As per Mayo Clinic, Lupus “is a disease that occurs when your body's immune system attacks your own tissues and organs.”
The health website explains, “Inflammation caused by lupus can affect many different body systems - including your joints, skin, kidneys, blood cells, brain, heart and lungs and while there's no cure for lupus, treatments can help control symptoms.”
Nick Cannon revealed to the world about his medical condition in January 2012 on 'The Nick Cannon Show'.
“Ten years ago, I experienced a sudden and mysterious illness that almost took my life; at the time, I had no idea it was lupus," he said back then.
Cannon added, “I always have to have a camera on ... so I would literally open up my phone, grab my camera and I would talk to the camera, and I documented the entire health journey.”
“It's the last place you wanna be, man - doctors telling you you could die.” In 2022, Cannon said of his medical condition, “I have been diagnosed with lupus, and after a decade of close calls, blood transfusions, chemotherapy and hospitalizations, I continue to push through.”
Nick Cannon shares about life with Lupus
The 43-year-old continued and said “it wasn't easy” to change everything about the way he lived amid his health problems, reports People.
“Day-by-day I laid a foundation both mentally and physically to build back the life that I had almost lost to this disease,” Cannon said.
The reality show star collaborated with The Lupus Foundation of America and shared he can “live until [he's] a very old man with this diagnosis" as long as he takes care of himself.
“I try to be as optimistic and as hopeful and full of faith as possible,' he said. 'I truly believe those are the things that help. Faith changes things.”
“I feel like this happened to me so I can be an inspiration, and I can talk about it,” Cannon said.
