Nicole Kidman opens up on co-star 'chemistry test'

Kidman responded after the host asked if they could ‘relate’ to Anne Hathaway’s recent comment when she shared how she didn’t feel like kissing a number of men for a co-star chemistry test.

"Who here can relate, and what were your versions of it?" the interviewer asked.

"To be excited to make out with someone? I think maybe secretly I’ve been excited," Kidman said laughing.

Watts jumped in with her own similar experience as she said, "I was auditioning and I didn’t get the job, so clearly I did not do a good make-out. It was with a very well-known actor. It was mortifying because we didn’t hear a 'cut,' and it just kept going."

Kidman reflected further on the idea of chemistry tests. "You can not have chemistry [in the audition], and onscreen, it’s made,” she admitted.

“...There’s a way you can shoot things. I think just relying on chemistry is lazy. There’s the writing. There’s the interaction. You can literally be directed through it," the 56-year-old said.

Nicole Kidman is set to star in Netflix's upcoming 'A Family Affair'

Kidman will be next seen opposite Zac Efron in the Netflix romantic comedy 'A Family Affair.' The flick also features Joey King playing Zara, an assistant for movie star Chris Cole (Efron).

This is Kidman and Efron’s second romantic pairing after ‘The Paperboy’ (2012).

"I was still a bit apprehensive, but reuniting with Nicole is always so great. And as talented as she as an actress, she is equally kind, caring and wonderful to spend time with," Efron earlier told People.

Kidman shares two daughters, Sunday, 15, and Faith, 13, with musician Keith Urban.

She previously revealed the secret to their successful marriage. "I think it's knowing that you have to keep contributing to what we call the 'us,'" she said.

"You go, 'Does this work for us?' "When you make an us, it's yours together — that's what you create," Kidman added.
