'No authority': Internet agrees with Trump as he says Biden getting ‘free pass’ on classified documents
WASHINGTON, DC: Former president Donald Trump stated on Tuesday, March 12 that President Joe Biden was receiving a 'free pass' with regards to classified docs while he was being prosecuted over the same issue.
The comments were made by Trump in a social media post just before special counsel Robert Hur was scheduled to testify before Congress over his decision to not bring any charges against Biden for mishandling classified documents.
Trump earlier pleaded not guily to a 37-count indictment related to his handling of classified materials as he repeatedly refused to return hundreds of documents containing classified information, and took steps to thwart the government's efforts to get the documents back.
Trump claims President Biden is getting 'free pass' on classified documents
Trump posted on his Truth Social account, "Big day in Congress for the Biden Documents Hoax. He had many times more documents, including classified documents, than I, or any other president, had. He had them all over the place, with ZERO supervision or security. He does NOT come under the Presidential Records Act, I DO. He had many docs in CHINATOWN, and they were moved all over the place, and heavily used."
Insinuating that there are more grounds for punishing the president for mishandling the papers than in his own case, the former president said that Biden's case does not qualify under the Presidential Records Act.
He added, "My boxes were moved by GSA, were secure, most carried clothing, shoes, sporting equipment, kitchen “stuff,” newspapers, pictures, magazines, awards, etc. The DOJ gave Biden, and virtually every other person and President, a free pass. Me, I’m still fighting!!! MAGA."
Trump made these comments before Robert Hur's Capitol Hill testimony, during which Republican members said that President Biden's not-guilty judgment is evidence of a two-tiered legal system.
However, Democrats rallied around the president, emphasizing his cooperation with Hur's investigation and trying to downplay the special counsel's comments on Biden's forgetfulness.
Rep Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) said during the hearing, "I believe, as is his habit, that President Biden probably committed a verbal slip or two during the interview. And I’m not sure any of that matters, because when the interview was over, Mr Hur completely exonerated President Biden."
He added, "And then there is Donald Trump. What kind of man bungles not one, but dozens of opportunities to avoid criminal liability? What does that say about his mental state?"
