LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'Golden Bachelor' star couple Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist have announced their divorce just after three months of marriage on Friday, April 12.

“Theresa and I have had a number of heart-to-heart conversations, and we’ve looked closely at our situation, our living situation, so forth, and we’ve kind of come to the conclusion mutually that it’s probably time for us to dissolve our marriage,” Turner, 72, told 'Good Morning America' viewers. When journalist Juju Chang asked whether that meant a “divorce,” he replied, "Yes."

Both Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist were previously married and widowed

Nist, 70, chimed in, “We have received so much love and support from so many people who watched ‘The Golden Bachelor,’ and I don’t think we can tell you how many people told us that it gave them so much hope. We want none of that to change for anybody.”

The reality stars were previously married and widowed when they fell in love on the first season of the Bachelor Nation spinoff show.

When did Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist marry?

Turner proposed to Nist during the series finale, which was televised in November last year. The lovebirds walked down the aisle a couple of months later in a televised wedding attended by Susan Noles, Kathy Swarts, and more fan favorites from the season.

However, their marriage was a long-distance one, as Nist remained in New Jersey and Turner in Indiana, where their children reside.

Reason for Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist's breakup

Turner clarified on Friday that the duo's decision to break up comes from “how dedicated” they are to their families. “We look at these situations, and I think we just feel like it’s best for the happiness of each of us to, to live apart,” he said per Page Six

While “the plan” was to make their union work, Nist said, “We looked at homes in South Carolina, we considered New Jersey, and we just looked at homes after home, but we never got to the point where we made that decision.” The former ABC personalities held hands during the interview and both stated that they do continue to “love” each other.

Turner shares two daughters with Toni Turner to whom he was married for 43 years until she died in 2017. As for Nist, she shared two children with her husband William “Bill” Nist before his death.

Internet responds to Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist's separation

Internet users seemingly gave negative responses after Turner and Nist announced their separation.

One user tweeted, "How much were they paid? This stinks of fraud in every way," and another opined, "This was a wrong choice from the beginning. He should have picked the right one, but he got too egotistical. Thought he was really hot to trot for the ladies. Which brings me to the question: 'why are women so desperate to have a man'? I’m 72 & never would get married again."

"At that age, who wants to give up their life and family to go and live with some stranger that just came into your life? You don’t have much time left. Spend it with family," advised one user, and one tweeted, "Got their 15 mins of fame mission accomplished." "Oh NO surprise there," said another user.
