LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'Bridgerton' star Charithra Chandran is calling out the entertainment industry!

The Netflix star, who played Edwin Sharma in the smash regal series, accused showbiz of pitting people of color against each other.

Talking with Deadline, the 27-year-old said, she has “never pictured myself as a role model” but “a lot of young girls follow me on social media, so I do feel a sense of responsibility.”

Stars who raised concern over few opportunities for colored performers

It’s just not her, other famous actors, including Melissa Fumero, Dev Patel, and Aubrey Plaza have brought up the issue of limited spaces for people of color in TV and movies.

But according to Chandran, it is quite deliberate, “It’s not a zero-sum game. You’re so focused on fighting your own that you become distracted from the people doing the oppressing,” she told the outlet.

“The oppressors have imposed the idea that there’s only one seat at the table when what other people of color are doing is just pulling up more chairs."

Thanks to her newfound stardom, the actress can reach out to a lot of people through her social media platforms. Sharing her thoughts on subjects like diversity, Chandran said, “I think that is the burden of representation, right?”

She continued, “It’s so scarce that you’re expected to represent everybody in your community as opposed to just being an individual.”

“The goal is that representation is so nuanced and so consistent that no one individual portrayal has that burden, but while I have it, it’s a really important responsibility that I take seriously.”

Before making big with 'Bridgerton', Chandran made an appearance in the spy series ‘Alex Rider,’ per Deadline.

“I think as I get older there are fewer and fewer opportunities where I get to play and do a film like that [in which she plays a teenager].”
