LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Oprah Winfrey has come under fire after admitting that her perspective on "thin people" changed after using weight-loss drugs like Ozempic and Wegovy.

In a candid conversation with Dr Ania Jastreboff on her podcast, the 70-year-old media mogul opened up about her long-standing struggles with weight and her previous views on those who maintain a slim figure.

"One of the things I realized when I first took a GLP-1 was that all those years I thought thin people had more willpower. They ate better food. They could hold out longer. They never had any chips," Oprah Winfrey admitted.

However, after starting a GLP-1 medication, which is commonly used to treat type 2 diabetes but also aids in weight loss, Oprah's perspective shifted dramatically.

She explained that the weight-loss drug allowed her to experience what she had once perceived as "willpower," but in reality, it was simply the absence of what she called "food noise"—the constant cravings and intrusive hunger thoughts that often make it difficult for people to control their eating habits, as per Daily Mail.

"And then I realized, the very first time I took the GLP-1, they don’t even think about it. They eat when they’re hungry and stop when they’re full," Oprah expressed.

The 70-year-old stressed that the natural eating patterns she observed in "thin people" didn’t work for those who struggled with their weight, calling being overweight "a disease" rather than just an issue of willpower.

During the conversation with Dr Jastreboff, Oprah spoke about being "publicly humiliated" because of her weight over the course of her decades-long career.

"Every week [I was] exploited by the tabloids, every time a comedian wanted to make fun of it or make a joke about it, they made a joke about it. And I accepted it because I thought I deserved it," she shared.

But now Oprah has realized that her size doesn’t make her "less than" others and that she doesn’t deserve that treatment.

Oprah Winfrey faces heat after admitting her view on 'thin people' changed after using weight-loss drugs

Oprah Winfrey, who once criticized the use of weight-loss medications calling them an "easy way out," finally admitted to losing nearly 50 pounds with the use of GLP-1 medication after decades of yo-yo dieting in December 2023.

As she shared her experiences of using the medication and her changing thoughts on thin people and their eating habits, netizens didn't seem to agree with her, and some thought she was a hypocrite.

One under the Daily Mail story wrote, "Some of us don't resort to drugs and are not liars like this overrated woman," and another added, "How about she keep her thoughts to herself? I don't believe anything she says."

"Even more disturbing is that she was an investor in Weight Watchers which dictates portion control and healthy choices. So that was for others but not Oprah? Hypocrite much?" a person pointed out.

An individual shared, "Not true. I have plenty of food noise, particularly before that time of the month. I've been thin most of my life and have had to put a lot of effort into keeping my shape. Yeah sure there are people who are naturally thin, but there are plenty of people who are only that way because they make it a priority."

"Firstly, no one should ever use the word 'thin' to describe a person who is within a healthy weight range. Secondly, maintaining a healthy weight comes down to eating the right amount of healthy food and daily exercise. Nothing more, nothing less. There are medical and genetic implications that affect 1-2% of the population, but for the rest of us, it's as simple as that," another person expressed.

One more wrote, "She doesn't know anything about thin people, she just knows about people on Ozempic. I am a healthy weight and I'm constantly modifying my diet and behavior to ensure I don't get fat."

In the comments section of her Instagram post, one stated, "I don’t think this is totally true. I’m the only one in my family with an autoimmune thyroid issue. My sister eats lots of bread with butter, grains and is a healthy weight. I’m gluten-free, mostly dairy-free, and struggle to be a healthy weight, it’s so difficult to lose any weight at all."

They added, "There is more to this, I recently found out I have IBS. So is it possible that the state of our microbiome determines how we digest food and makes weight loss so difficult?"

"This just makes me mad. You make your own GLP1 in your gut when your nutrition and exercise are on point. Remove agri-food - created to keep us numb and sick - move your body and heal," a person claimed.
