NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Donald Trump attended a 9/11 remembrance ceremony at a fire station in lower Manhattan, a place laden with the memories of the brave firefighters who lost their lives responding to the terrorist attacks over two decades ago.

Standing alongside the former president was Laura Loomer, a far-right activist known for pushing some pretty wild conspiracy theories, including the outlandish claim that 9/11 was "an inside job."

Donald Trump raises eyebrows over controversial companion Laura Loomer

Laura Loomer was right there with Donald Trump, capturing the day on social media as they made their rounds at the fire station. The former president was also accompanied by his running mate, Senator JD Vance

The far-right activist posted videos throughout the day documenting the MAGA spearhead's activities as he commemorated one of the darkest days in American history.

Interestingly, Loomer had also been at the presidential debate the night before and even traveled on Trump's plane. It’s clear that she has made her way into the GOP nominee's inner circle, but that might not be the best thing for the campaign's optics ahead of the November election.

Last year, she took to X (formerly Twitter) to share a video promoting the false claim that "9/11 was an inside job."

Following the media frenzy surrounding her appearance with Trump at the 9/11 event, Loomer wrote on X, "To the many reporters who are calling me and obsessively asking me to talk to them today, the answer is no."

She added, "I believe in unconditional loyalty to those who are deserving. And there is nobody more deserving of our loyalty and unwavering support than Donald Trump."

NBC News reached out to the Trump campaign to learn more about why Loomer was traveling with the former president and whether they were aware of her controversial statements before inviting her.

The campaign didn't directly address these questions. Instead, they issued a statement focusing on his 9/11 commemorations.

A campaign official noted, "Today, President Trump put politics aside and stood beside Kamala Harris and Joe Biden to honor those who lost their lives during the worst terrorist attack in our nation’s history/"

They added, "The day wasn’t about anyone other than the souls who are no longer with us, their families, and the heroes who courageously stepped up to save their fellow Americans on that fateful day."

Laura Loomer's history of conspiracy theories

Laura Loomer’s history of disseminating conspiracy theories is well-documented. Just last week, she claimed that school shootings have been allowed to happen to advance the Democratic agenda.

She has pushed baseless stories about undocumented immigrants registering to vote and about Haitian immigrants eating cats.

Loomer also falsely claimed that Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce were in an "arranged relationship" designed to influence the 2024 election.

Loomer’s actions on Wednesday weren’t just limited to the 9/11 event. She also sparked outrage with a racist post targeting Vice President Kamala Harris.

Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene, a fellow Trump ally, was quick to condemn Loomer's remarks.

On X, the Georgia congresswoman wrote, "This is an appalling and extremely racist. It does not represent who we are as Republicans or MAGA. This does not represent President Trump. This type of behavior should not be tolerated ever. @LauraLoomer should take this down."

Loomer’s offensive post was targeted toward the vice president's Indian heritage.

She claimed that if Harris won "the White House will smell like curry & White House speeches will be facilitated via a call center and the American people will only be able to convey their feedback through a customer satisfaction survey at the end of the call that nobody will understand."

Harris is the first person of Indian descent and the first Black woman to receive a major political party's nomination for president.

Internet slams Donald Trump for attending 9/11 event with Laura Loomer

Netizens were outraged with Donald Trump for bringing along someone who has promoted offensive and unfounded conspiracy theories to an event meant to honor the victims of the tragedy.

One wrote, "Laura Freaking Loomer was in Trump's 9/11 entourage today? He brought a 9/11 truther conspiracy lunatic to an annual memorial service?"

A person said, "That is insane, disgusting, and simply evil," while someone else added, "These people mock our most solemn events and spaces."

"Bringing Loomer to a 9/11 Memorial ceremony is without a doubt the most disgusting slap in Americans faces - EVER! What could he possibly be thinking? That was obviously rhetorical, he only thinks of himself," expressed an individual.

"Every time you think he can't sink lower, he gets a shovel and digs deeper," fumed one more, and another person commented, "Trump losing because of Laura Loomer would be the greatest thing to happen in the history of human existence."
