LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Patricia Richardson is thwarting Tim Allen’s plans for commissioning a potential ‘Home Improvement’ reboot with the original cast. Richardson, 73, played the role of Allen’s wife Jill in the sitcom from 1991 to 1999.

Appearing on the ‘Back to the Best’ podcast’s Thursday, March 28 episode, Richardson shared that she has not been approached for a possible reboot by Allen, despite the 70-year-old actor’s claim that “everyone was on board” for the reboot. Richardson made it clear she would not be interested in the reboot as well.

Patricia Richardson says she was never approached for 'Home Improvement' reboot

In the recent podcast appearance, the ‘County Line’ star shared, "It was so weird, I would hear he was coming out publicly and saying this stuff about everyone was on board to do a 'Home Improvement' reunion, but he never asked me and he never asked Jonathan [Taylor Thomas].”

Richardson shared that she called up Thomas, who played her and Allen’s onscreen son, to confirm whether he was approached for the potential reboot, per Entertainment Weekly.

Richardson continued, "I called Jonathan one day and said, 'Has he asked you about this? He went, 'No.' So why is he saying everyone is on board when he hasn’t talked to you or me?"

Richardson says that after confirming it with Thomas, she even cleared up the confusion by penning a long note on X (formerly Twitter) that she is not playing Jill in any reboot if it’s happening.

The ‘County Bride’ actress shared, "I wrote a big thing on Twitter and said I'm not involved in any series with Jill and I've also never even been asked to do another 'Home Improvement' reunion thing, but I would not want to.”

The actress then went on to give brief updates on her co-stars from the show while emphasizing that Zachery Ty Bryan - who played the role of her onscreen son Brad - is now a “felon.”

Referring to his multiple arrests on charges related to domestic violence and a DUI, Richardson continued, "I mean, Zach is now a felon," before adding, "Taran [Noah Smith] hasn’t acted since he left the show; he's not an actor anymore. And Jonathan's not really interested in acting. He wants to direct and write.”

“And we don’t have Wilson,” Richardson shared the news of the death of Earl Hindman, who portrayed the fan-favorite character of neighbor Wilson.

The fan-favorite ‘90s sitcom unveiled the story of Tim Taylor (Allen) - host of the home improvement show ‘Tool Time’ - and his wife Jill (Richardson). The other important characters were the couple’s three boys Brad (Bryan), Randy (Thomas), and Mark (Smith).

In 2023, Allen sparked the rumor of the reboot when he told The Messenger, "One of the conversations we've had recently is how weird it would be if Home Improvement would be about the kids' kids."

He continued, "Like if all of them had children, and I'm a grandparent. Home Re-Improvement or something like that. It's come up."

Internet reacts to Patricia Richardson refusing to be a part of 'Home Improvement' reboot

Fans reacted to Richardson's words while discussing the potential for a 'Home Improvement' reboot. Most of the fans are, however, against the idea of a reboot.

One of the fans stated on Reddit, "She basically said, 'I don’t think so, Tim'. Funny."

Someone else shared, "I thought it was sweet that she called JTT to ask him about it."

"The reboot should be intensive counseling for Zach and de-programming for Tim. The title could be “Self-Improvement," hypothesized another fan.

Someone else remarked, "Well that makes two of us. I have no interest in it either."

"Tim Allen isn’t funny anymore, ever since Santa Clause 2 and that family show, he’s lost that edge that he carried throughout Home Improvement. And unfortunately Wilson (Earl Hindman) has been gone for over 20 years now too. Just leave it alone, seriously. Reboots usually suck anyways, ESPECIALLY when the casting is different," commented another fan of the original show.

Another fan chimed in, "Also, didn't Richardson despise Tim Allen during the original run of the show?"

"Let it lie, folks. This one's roadkill," said someone else.

"ENOUGH WITH THE REBOOTS," declared another user.

Someone else observed, "Regardless of the felony statuses of the cast, Tim publicly says he’s in touch with them and they’ve talked about a reboot. Patricia says it never happened. I believe her."

Meanwhile, another fan asked, "Wasn’t Tim a felon before Home Improvement aired?"
