Patrick Clancy's deleted posts reveal Lindsay's disturbing spiral months before kids' deaths
PLYMOUTH, MASSACHUSETTS: Patrick Clancy's old Reddit activity has resurfaced as another window into the months before his three children died, with posts describing his then-wife Lindsay’s deteriorating condition, changes in her treatment and growing concerns inside the family.
The account, which Patrick used for years before it disappeared, reportedly includes questions he posted about severe sleep problems, psychiatric medication and thoughts of harming loved ones.
Some of the posts were reportedly written weeks before Lindsay was hospitalized and ultimately became part of the timeline examined during her criminal proceedings.
Patrick Clancy's deleted Reddit posts surface
One of Patrick’s December 2022 posts allegedly described what had happened after Lindsay began taking Zoloft following concerns about returning to work after the birth of their third child.
Posts made under Lindsay's name said she had developed serious problems sleeping soon after starting the medication.
The post reportedly described nights when she slept only a few hours and stated one occasion when she remained awake for roughly two days.
Patrick also allegedly wrote that Lindsay had lost around 15 pounds over a two-month period, reaching about 115 pounds.
In another post, Patrick questioned whether medication had been the right approach at all.
Lindsay’s psychiatrist had reportedly raised concerns about possible bipolar symptoms.
The posts became increasingly concerning.
In one December entry, Patrick had allegedly asked other users whether medication-related experiences had ever involved thoughts about hurting other people, including family members, and whether anyone had ever felt close to acting on such thoughts.
The questions provide a record of what Patrick was worried about at the time, although they do not by themselves establish what caused Lindsay’s behavior or what she intended.
Treatment concerns grew
Patrick also described how Lindsay’s treatment changed after the problems began.
According to his posts, doctors prescribed additional medication, including Ativan and others intended to address insomnia, before her treatment was changed again to Prozac.
Patrick repeatedly questioned whether Lindsay’s original anxiety could have been managed through therapy and additional time away from the demands of work and caring for three children.
He recalled that she had experienced difficulties after the births of their first two children but had previously managed them with therapy and coping strategies.
That account changed significantly by mid-December.
Court testimony later established that Lindsay went to the emergency department at Massachusetts General Hospital on December 15.
She was subsequently evaluated for more intensive psychiatric care and was admitted to McLean Hospital on December 30, remaining there until January 5.
Patrick’s account also featured prominently during the criminal proceedings against Lindsay.
During testimony, Patrick described the circumstances surrounding the family in the period before the children died and the concerns he had about Lindsay’s condition.
The Reddit material gained additional significance because Patrick had used an email address in one of the posts that was later identified during proceedings.
Cell phone forensics expert Timothy Chiappini testified in court and read the email address aloud during his examination.
The court also heard evidence about Lindsay’s treatment history, including her stays at Massachusetts General Hospital and McLean Hospital.
The Reddit posts therefore offer another contemporaneous record of Patrick’s concerns, but they remain one piece of a much larger body of evidence examined during the case.
