WASHINGTON,DC: A disturbing new TikTok trend has turned Lindsay Clancy’s ongoing murder trial into an unlikely backdrop for online motherhood content.

Women have filmed themselves holding their children, crying over Clancy’s writings and declaring 'Same, Lindsay' while another viral clip showed a mother angrily throwing ice cubes into a bathtub as she described struggling to control her patience.

Amidst the bizarre trend, on Thursday, August 20, supporters in pink gathered outside court as Clancy’s defense prepares to complete its case.

The spectacle has prompted fierce backlash over where empathy ends and accountability begins.

'Same, Lindsay' videos raise eyebrows

The phrase 'Same, Lindsay' has begun appearing across TikTok videos in which women attempt to draw parallels between their own experiences of motherhood and the writings of Lindsay Clancy, who is accused of killing her three children in January 2023.

Some creators have filmed themselves with their babies while becoming emotional, using excerpts from Clancy’s writings about anxiety, exhaustion and the pressures she experienced as a mother.

One particularly striking video showed a woman standing beside a bathtub and throwing ice cubes into it while appearing visibly enraged.

The woman wrote over the video that, on some days, her patience as a mother is difficult to control before screaming and repeatedly throwing ice into the tub.

The apparent message was that she was demonstrating an alternative outlet for anger directing the emotion toward the bathtub rather than a child.

The controversy comes as supporters of Clancy on Thursday also gathered outside Plymouth Superior Court.

A large group dressed in pink appeared outside the courthouse as the trial approached a crucial stage.

Clancy's defense attorney Kevin Reddington described the turnout as “amazing” and said the case had resonated nationally because of questions surrounding the mental-health system.

The public support has extended well beyond courtroom demonstrations.

A verified GoFundMe campaign established for Clancy’s parents has reportedly raised more than $900,000 toward a $2 million goal.

Conservatives question disturbing trend

Conservative commentators have challenged the online sympathy campaign, arguing that the attention appears to be centering Clancy rather than the three children who died.

Dana Loesch, conservative commentator and host of 'The Dana Show' argued that supporters were “not standing for her three kids, whom she killed, but for her,” adding that some women were “too online.”

Matt Walsh also questioned the argument being made by some supporters, saying it was curious that alleged psychosis was being invoked in a case where the victims were the accused woman's children.

Benny Johnson took aim at the trend, arguing that most mothers are devoted to protecting and raising their children and should not be represented by what he described as extreme exceptions.

Clancy’s defense, meanwhile, is not arguing that the deaths did not happen.

Her lawyers have pleaded not guilty on her behalf and have maintained that she was experiencing severe postpartum psychiatric illness, including psychosis, when the children died.
