NEW ORLEANS, LOUSIANA: Patrick Mahomes' grandfather is holding on in hospice care, hoping to watch his grandson play in the Super Bowl.

While attending the NFL Honors in New Orleans on Thursday, February 6, the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback's mother, Randi Mahomes, shared that her father, Randy Martin is in hospice as Patrick prepares for his third straight championship game. 

Randi Mahomes says her father is 'watching and he's excited'

Randi Mahomes said that her father is "hanging on" to see another of Patrick Mahomes' successes as the Chiefs get ready to face the Philadelphia Eagles.

Randi is keeping Patrick informed about his grandfather’s health as the big game approaches.

She texts Patrick updates but tries not to "bug him," she revealed to People. She shared that her father "is watching and he's excited."

Despite Randy having difficult days, "the one thing that he remembers" is when the Super Bowl is.

"I know that it has meant a lot to him," Randi said, adding "And I think he's hanging on because he wants to see his grandson do an amazing thing or just let him play."

Randi Mahomes says his father is a 'proud grandpa' to Patrick Mahomes 

Reflecting on her father’s love for Patrick, Mahomes, Randi Mahomes spoke about how much pride he has always had in his grandson.

"I mean, he must be such a proud grandpa, so proud," she said, adding "And my mom was very proud and his other grandparents [were too]."

Randi previously opened up on her father’s health on January 24, posting on her Instagram Stories that he had entered hospice care.

Alongside a photo of herself with her father, she included Bible verse Colossians 3:20, which reads, "Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord."

She captioned the post, "My dad is in hospice and I'm lost for words 🙏🙏🙏."

Randi Mahomes asked for prayers during her father's hospital stay

Before entering hospice, Randy Mahomes was hospitalized in September 2024 for an undisclosed reason. At the time, Randi Mahomes posted on X asking for prayers for her father as he navigated his health crisis.

"Prayer warriors please pray for my daddy. He is in the hospital and is not well.. his name is Randy," she posted at the time.



 

On Sunday, February 9, the Chiefs will face the Eagles in Super Bowl LIX.

This marks Patrick’s third consecutive championship game and his fifth overall, following victories over the Eagles in 2023 and the San Francisco 49ers in 2024 and 2020.
