Paula Abdul reveals diet and fitness secrets that help her maintain a bombshell physique at 62
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Paula Abdul, at 62, continues to captivate audiences with her energetic performances.
Currently the opener for New Kids On The Block's Magic Summer Tour, the singer and choreographer has been impressing fans with her daring stage outfits and flawless dance moves.
In a recent interview with Daily Mail, Abdul revealed the diet and fitness secrets that let her maintain an age-defying physique.
Paula Abdul's healthy alkaline diet and rigorous fitness routine
Despite enduring multiple spinal surgeries and chronic back pain from a 1992 plane crash, Paula remains passionate about performing. She told the aforementioned publication, "I love being able to communicate through music and dance and as long as I can continue to do it I'm going to do it for as long as I can."
"You know, being on stage is a happy place for me," added Abdul, who started her career as a cheerleader for the Los Angeles Lakers at 18.
The 62-year-old follows a healthy diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and coconut water, incorporating elements from an alkaline diet to reduce inflammation.
She enjoys healthy grains like quinoa and her protein sources include egg whites, tofu, chicken, and shrimp. While she indulges in vegan pizzas and occasional sweets, she avoids excessive sugar to manage her injuries and maintain optimum health.
"I don't like to say dieting, but I eat in a healthy way which incorporates a lot of elements from an alkaline diet because my body, just from injuries alone, carries a lot of acidity, so I try to keep the balance right so I can keep as much inflammation out of my body," explained Abdul.
She further shared, "I make sure that I eat healthy grains like I love quinoa and I mix some protein in. My protein comes from anything from egg whites to tofu to chicken to shrimp, and I mix it up so that I have a proper balance of protein and fat."
Her fitness routine is rigorous. She starts her day with 30 minutes of cardio, followed by an hour of strength training. She also dedicates about 90 minutes to choreography practice and another hour to isometric exercises and stretches with a physical therapist before her performances.
Her trainers keep her workouts challenging, including demanding exercises like upside-down ab crunches.
Apart from diet and exercise, Abdul also focuses on her skincare. She emphasized the importance of never going to bed with makeup, sharing that she follows a thorough cleansing routine to keep her skin in top condition.
While focused on touring, the former 'American Idol' judge remains open to new opportunities, whether in television or teaching dance. She cherishes her role as a teacher and believes in staying a student to continue learning and growing.
Abdul told the outlet, "There's so much great new talent out there that I've learned to stay a student because for me, if I stay a student, then I'll continue being a good teacher. I think it's important because you're never done learning."
