NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene was trolled online as she re-tweeted a post that claimed that conservative journalist Tucker Carlson was susceptible to a terrorist attack during his visit to Russia to interview President Vladimir Putin.

The original tweet mentions a foiled attempt on the former Fox News anchor's life, which was allegedly set to motion by the Ukrainian special services.

While Greene claims the report to be true and cause for serious concern, netizens are having a hard time buying her words.

Marjorie Taylor Greene's tweet

Taking to X on February 26, the Georgia representative retweeted a post that read, "A Russian was detained who was preparing a terrorist attack to kill Tucker Carlson on instructions from the Ukrainian special services."

"On suspicion of preparing a terrorist attack, a native of Podolsk was detained, who, acting on instructions from the State Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine, was supposed to blow up the car in which the popular American journalist Tucker Carlson was traveling," the post added.

"It is known that the man was supposed to plant an explosive device under a car located in the underground parking lot in the building of the Four Seasons Hotel, where Tucker Carlson lived during his visit to Russia from February 1 to 8," it continued.

The post further stated, "The suspect was detained at the preparation stage; he failed to carry out his plans. It is known that the suspect confessed. He was recruited by the Main Directorate of Intelligence of Ukraine in November 2023. The “curators” promised the performer $4,000 for successfully completing the task."

"Tucker Carlson himself, who interviewed Russian President Vladimir Putin in early February, is confident that he was being monitored by US intelligence agencies. He said the surveillance was carried out by the US National Security Agency (NSA). According to Carlson, intelligence agencies leaked the collected data to the New York Times in order to disrupt the interview with Putin," it said.

"Previously, Tucker Carlson was included in the database of the Myrotvorets website for 'an attempt on the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.'" it concluded.

In her post, Greene added, "This is true and extremely terrifying. Journalism is a dangerous job but also one of the most important. We must always protect free speech and a free press. It’s the only way to protect people from governments."
