BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS: Perry Farrell's wife Etty Lau has reportedly broken her silence on the dramatic altercation between her husband and guitarist Dave Navarro during a concert in Boston.

Lau's husband, who is the lead singer of Jane's Addiction, allegedly physically confronted Navarro during the event, the Daily Mail reported.

Lau shared that the altercation stemmed from Farrell's frustrations over being "drowned out" by the band's excessive volume, exacerbated by the singer's struggles with tinnitus and a sore throat.

In a detailed Instagram post, Etty Lau defended her husband, explaining that Farrell had been dealing with ongoing health issues that impacted his voice.

"Rather than speculating, I thought to post a first person account of what happened on stage," she wrote.

Lau mentioned that Farrell has been dealing with "tinnitus and a sore throat every night" which has impacted his voice. Farrell felt the stage volume was excessively loud, causing his voice to be overpowered by the band's sound.

Lau acknowledged there had been "tension and animosity between the bandmembers" but pointed out that this wasn't entirely negative, as it was also "the magic that made the band so dynamic."

The loud stage volume became unbearable for Farrell during Friday night's performance. Matters escalated when fans in the front row heckled the singer, claiming they couldn’t hear him.

Lau described how Farrell, struggling to be heard over the band’s booming instruments, began screaming rather than singing, leading to frustration and anger.

During the band’s rendition of 'Ocean Size', Navarro and the other bandmates started playing before Farrell was ready, which only worsened his inability to hear and pushed him over the edge.

"The band started the song Ocean before Perry was ready and did the count off," Lau said.

"The stage volume was so loud at that point, that Perry couldn’t hear pass the boom and the vibration of the instruments and by the end of the song, he wasn’t singing, he was screaming just be to be heard."

Eyewitnesses reported seeing Farrell intoxicated on stage, with many noting that he had a large bottle of wine with him throughout the performance.

The tension reportedly started during the song 'Mountain Song' and reached a peak with 'Ocean Size', when Farrell shouted at Navarro before the physical confrontation ensued.

In her post, Lau described Navarro attempting to de-escalate the situation while bassist Eric Avery got involved, reportedly putting Farrell in a headlock and punching him in the stomach.

Farrell broke down in tears after the fight, with Lau criticizing Avery for taking "cheap shots" during the chaotic scene.

The Boston altercation comes just a week after Jane's Addiction reunited for the first time in 14 years, with fans left shocked as the drama unfolded mid-performance.

Etty Lau Farrell’s explanation about the on-stage altercation between her husband Perry Farrell and guitarist Dave Navarro has ignited a lively debate in the comments section of the Daily Mail article, with fans weighing in on everything from the role of sound engineers to Perry’s behavior during the concert.

One user criticized Farrell’s heavy drinking during the set, stating, “You’re getting old, buddy. And heavy drinking before and during the set isn’t going to change that,” while another user defended Navarro, saying, “Dave is not to blame... The sound engineer does the mix. The front row sound is not always the best for sound quality.”

Some fans expressed empathy for Navarro, pointing to a video of the incident. “In the video, Navarro’s hands are visibly shaking from the anxiety of the confrontation. That killed me. There’s no excuse for Farrell’s behavior,” wrote one commenter.

Others found Farrell’s outburst unprofessional, with one user saying, “Extremely childish... Figure it out between songs as a group – you’re all a team.”

Many fans also highlighted Navarro’s sobriety and the challenges of watching a friend struggle with addiction. “Dave has discussed his past addictions... He’s likely really not happy watching yet another friend spiral,” remarked one person.

Meanwhile, another blamed the sound engineers for the mix, concluding, “No one plays too loud or sings too quiet, the sound engineers have not mixed the levels right.”
