Grayson Murray's tragic suicide

The troubled golfer, who had previously opened up about struggling with mental health, died from inhaling toxic smoke.

Murray is believed to have kept his Land Rover in the ignition in the garage and went upstairs to his room while the car was filling the house with toxic smoke.

One of his neighbors even heard the revving sound of the car at around 12.30 am on Saturday. When he went outside to check, the neighbor claimed it had stopped.

At around 10.49 am, the police were called after the locals heard a blare of carbon monoxide alarms.

Referring to the sound of the car’s engine, the neighbor said, “My thought was maybe it was a kid revving a car. I went outside to investigate but by then there was no sound.”

He continued, “What I later heard is that he started the car in the garage and went upstairs. He went to sleep and never woke up. People only found out because the CO alarm kept going off.”

The Palm Beach Gardens Police Department shared with the outlet that the investigation surrounding Murray’s death is still going on.

A spokesperson for the department shared, “We are conducting an investigation into the matter that occurred in our city.”

“The decedent was discovered on Saturday, May 25, 2024, at approximately 11:00 am. The initial inquiry does not reveal signs of foul play,” read a police statement on the incident.

The police further noted, “There is no apparent risk to the public and no further information will be released as the investigation is being conducted.”

Grayson Murray's parents confirmed his death in heartbreaking statement

On Sunday, Murray's family shared in a statement that the late golfer took his life just a day after withdrawing his name from the Charles Schwab Challenge. They wrote, "We have spent the last 24 hours trying to come to terms with the fact that our son is gone. It's surreal that we not only have to admit it to ourselves, but that we also have to acknowledge it to the world. It's a nightmare.”

His heartbroken parents Eric and Terry Murray continued, "We have so many questions that have no answers. But one, 'Was Grayson loved?' Yes. By us, his brother Cameron, his sister Erica, all of his extended family, by his friends, by his fellow players and – it seems – by many of you who are reading this. He was loved and he will be missed."

They added, "We would like to thank the PGA Tour and the entire world of golf for the outpouring of support. Life wasn't always easy for Grayson, and although he took his own life, we know he rests peacefully now.”
