PIERMONT, NEW YORK: Matt Uzzle, a top executive on the widely-watched daytime talk show 'Sherri', has tragically died in what appears to be a suicide.

The 50-year-old was reportedly under investigation concerning his management of the show's budget at the time of his death.

Uzzle was found lifeless during a welfare check conducted by the police at his residence in Piermont, New York, on February 13.

Sources close to the matter have indicated to Page Six that the circumstances surrounding his death suggest suicide.

His sudden death has left the community in "deep sorrow."

Who was Matt Uzzle?

Uzzle, who previously managed 'The Wendy Williams Show', maintained his role as the executive in charge of production when Sherri Shepherd succeeded with her self-titled show in the same syndicated slot.

Debmar-Mercury, the parent company of the show, initiated an investigation into Uzzle upon discovering that the show's rent at New York's Chelsea Studios had not been paid since September, as reported by Page Six.

A representative from Debmar-Mercury informed DailyMail that the company "has retained [law firm] Morgan Lewis to help us investigate the matter and, pending the outcome of that investigation, will have no further comment."

Matt Uzzle was under probe over financial discrepancies

Uzzle's main responsibilities at 'Sherri' included production management and budget oversight.

Sources revealed to Page Six that there had been recent grievances regarding petty cash discrepancies across multiple departments. "There was real concern among staff that the show was getting shut down. Debmar had to step in," said a source.

Upon being questioned about these budgetary issues, Uzzle reportedly requested a few days to sort out his paperwork.

However, after a period of silence from Uzzle, police discovered him deceased during a welfare check in Piermont.

The police have reportedly refrained from commenting on the case due to the ongoing investigation.

According to public records, Uzzle resided in a condominium in Piermont. The property, which was last purchased for $590,000 in 2015, is currently estimated to be worth $782,000 by Redfin.

Piermont community in 'deep sorrow'

The Piermont community is grappling with "deep sorrow" following the apparent suicide of 50-year-old Matt Uzzle.

Piermont Civic Association took to Facebook and shared, "Friends, relatives, and coworkers are stunned and saddened by the untimely demise of Matt Uzzle."

"Notwithstanding his notable stature within the entertainment sector, the specific circumstances surrounding his demise remain obscure, thereby engendering among many individuals an unresolved inquiry and a deep-seated sentiment of bereavement," it noted.

"With the Piermont community uniting in sorrow over the passing of one of its own, cherished and commemorative recollections of Matt Uzzle will ensue," the statement continued.

"Those who had the honor of knowing him will perpetually honor his legacy as a remarkably skilled production manager and cherished companion," it added.

Meanwhile, social media saw an outpouring of prayers for Uzzle.

"Very sad and shocking news about Matt who we will miss as a neighbor and friend," said a user on Facebook.

Another person shared, "What a beautiful tribute, I pray he is at peace."

One person stated, "He got it together all right.. smh.. so sad for him and his family."

"It's sad about the Inherited Executive and I'm glad it doesn't affect Sherry's show in any way," added another.
