TUCSON, ARIZONA: A new alert issued by the Pima County Sheriff's Department has drawn attention to a kidnapping suspect wanted in a separate criminal investigation less than 10 miles from the home of missing Tucson woman Nancy Guthrie.
Over the weekend, authorities released a 'be on the lookout' notice for Coral Michelle Smith, 40, who is wanted in connection with a kidnapping and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon case.
While investigators have not linked Smith to Guthrie's disappearance, the proximity of the two cases has raised fresh interest as the search for Guthrie continues.

Coral Michelle Smith wanted in kidnapping and assault investigation
The incident involving Smith occurred on May 29 near the intersection of River Road and La Cholla Boulevard, approximately 6.8 miles from Guthrie's residence in the Catalina Foothills area.
Officials have not released further details about the alleged incident and have stressed that no connection has been established between Smith and Guthrie's case.
According to the Pima County Sheriff's Department, Smith is being sought in connection with an investigation involving alleged kidnapping and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Authorities issued the alert over the weekend, asking the public to be aware of Smith's identity and appearance.
However, investigators have not publicly disclosed additional information about the circumstances surrounding the May 29 incident.
Smith is described as being approximately 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighing around 136 pounds. She has blonde hair and blue eyes.
Investigators also highlighted several distinctive tattoos that could help identify her.
These include a smiley face and heart tattoo on her right ankle, a rose with flames on her right foot, and the phrase "love, life family" tattooed on her left leg.
Coral Michelle Smith's lengthy criminal history
Court records cited by authorities show that Smith has faced several criminal accusations over the years, including allegations involving kidnapping, assault and disorderly conduct.
One of the most notable cases dates back to 2020. While a kidnapping charge from that case was eventually dismissed, records show Smith was convicted of residential robbery connected to the same incident.
The victim in that case was reportedly under the age of 15.
Authorities also noted that Smith has spent time in prison on multiple occasions and has used several aliases over the years. According to local reports, those aliases include "Corral Albright" and "Under the Sea Smith."
Officials further stated that her criminal history extends back more than a decade, with prior charges dating to 2010.
The sheriff's department has continued to circulate identifying information as part of efforts to locate her.
Investigators say there is no known connection to Nancy Guthrie case
Although the sheriff's alert was issued within the same jurisdiction handling the Nancy Guthrie investigation, authorities have not suggested that Smith is connected to Guthrie's disappearance.
Guthrie vanished on February 1, and no suspects have been publicly identified in connection with the case.
Investigators have previously focused attention on a person captured on Guthrie's Nest doorbell camera.
Authorities described that individual as being of average height and build, standing somewhere between 5 feet 9 inches and 5 feet 10 inches tall.
Additional recovered images from the same camera at Nancy Guthrie’s front door the morning of her disappearance, including two videos of the individual.

The footage reportedly showed the person wearing a black 25-liter Ozark Trail Hiker Pack backpack while standing at Guthrie's front door.
Some analysts reviewing the footage have speculated that the individual seen in the video may be female.
However, even if that assessment proves accurate, Smith's physical description differs noticeably from the person authorities described.
At 5 feet 6 inches tall, Smith is significantly shorter than the estimated height range provided by investigators in the Guthrie case.
