Poll finds 1 in 5 Trump voters support impeachment in second term, including 21% of 2024 voters
WASHINGTON, DC: A new national poll has found majority support for impeaching President Donald Trump, including backing from a notable share of his own 2024 voters.
The survey found that 55% of US adults support the House of Representatives voting to impeach Trump, while 37% oppose it.
The results come as Trump faces renewed scrutiny over his handling of immigration, the economy, and recent comments on the conflict with Iran.
The findings also point to growing divisions within his political base.
Poll shows majority support for impeachment
The survey, conducted by Strength in Numbers/Verasight between April 10 and April 14, questioned 1,514 US adults and found that 55% support impeachment proceedings against President Donald Trump, compared to 37% who oppose and 8% who remain undecided.
The poll carries a margin of error of plus or minus 2.6 percentage points.
One of the most notable findings was that 21% of Republicans said they would support impeachment if the House voted today.
The same percentage, 21%, was recorded among Trump’s own 2024 voters, while 73% opposed the move.
Pollster G Elliot Morris described that as significant, noting it means “roughly one out of every five of the people who put him back in office” now support impeachment.

Among Democrats, support was far stronger, with 88% backing impeachment and only 8% opposed.
Voters who backed former Vice President Kamala Harris in 2024 showed even stronger support, with 90% in favor. Independents were also split in favor, with 50% supporting impeachment and 28% opposed.
Morris noted that the overall net support of +18 places Trump in a historical range similar to public opinion during the peak of the Watergate scandal, when support for removing Richard Nixon reached comparable levels.
Political pressure builds as criticism mounts
The polling comes amid growing political pressure on Trump from congressional Democrats, some of whom have openly called for impeachment or invoked discussions around the 25th Amendment.
Representative John Larson has introduced 13 articles of impeachment, with more than 85 House lawmakers publicly supporting either impeachment proceedings or calls for removal.
Recent criticism of Trump has also come from outside Washington, including some conservative figures who backed him in 2024.
His social media posts on Iran and escalating rhetoric around the conflict have triggered backlash from commentators across the political spectrum.
The poll also showed an “intensity gap” in support for impeachment.
While 45% of respondents said they strongly support impeachment, 30% said they strongly oppose it, suggesting stronger motivation among those favoring removal.
Historically, impeachment polling has rarely reached this level.
During Trump’s second impeachment after the January 6 United States Capitol attack, public support ranged between 52% and 56%, while support during Bill Clinton's impeachment peaked at around 33%.
