Princess Diana’s Philadelphia Eagles jacket catches attention
While the Super Bowl LIX was a star-studded affair with Taylor Swift, Donald Trump, and the members of the First Family, Ice Spice, ‘Yellowstone’ star Kevin Costner, and Paul Rudd among others, the resurgence of the late Princess of Wales’ past looks created a frenzy among the fans.
As fans started questioning whether the princess was an Eagles fan before her tragic death in 1977, People noted that there was an interesting story behind her look.
Diana’s connection with the Philadelphia-based team can be traced back as early as 1982, when she met Jack Edelstein, a longtime statistician for the team, at the funeral of Princess Grace of Monaco.

Grace Kelly, who was a family friend of Edelstein, was a Philadelphia native. During an interview with the Philadelphia Daily News, Edelstein said that Diana - unfamiliar with American sports - asked the colors of the Eagles, which was when he replied “Green and silver.”
"She said, 'Those are my favorite colors'," continued Edelstein, before adding that he then promised to send her some Eagles gear.
He added that not only did they send her hats, shirts, and shorts, but they also commissioned a jacket for her.

"We also sent her a beautiful Eagles jacket, made for her,” continued Edelstein, before adding, “It was Leonard Tose's [then team owner] idea. He never went second-class.”
The late Princess of Wales too accepted the gift gracefully, as Edelstein noted, "She sent me a very nice note, how she'd been wearing them around."
The outlet further noted that those who were close to Diana shared that the princess wore the jacket often, which eventually became one of her wardrobe staples, not as a fidelity to the team but rather as a stylish choice.
