Internet praises Colton Underwood as he reveals challenges of fertility and parenthood as a gay man
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Colton Underwood might be a parent soon but the road to it had not been easy for him.
The TV personality shared with Parents magazine that he always wanted to be a father and it was one of the reasons behind him coming out late as gay.
Colton Underwood and Jordan C Brown always wanted to have children
In 2023, the 32-year-old said “I do” to his now husband Jordan C Brown, after their desire to become parents bonded them.
He said, “One of the first things that Jordan and I bonded over was our want to be fathers. That was especially important because, as I've been on my coming out journey, [wanting to be a dad] was one of the factors that kept me in the closet."
"I didn't really know it was possible to build a family as a gay man, until I came out, until I started having more conversations with Jordan and started educating myself."

Revealing his journey toward having a child as a gay, he told the magazine, “When we first went in (to our fertility clinic), we went in sort of skipping, holding hands, all happy.”
Colton Underwood says fertility talks are ‘hard’
The former ‘Bachelor’ star further mentioned, “We were going to give our sample and freeze our sperm—day one of starting our family—and I got my sperm results back, and I had four sperms."
He noted, “One was barely moving in my sample. It was one of those things where [I was basically] considered technically infertile. I was like, ‘This sucks. This is hard'."
Underwood also said, “I get why people don't talk about fertility because it is hard, and it's so intimate. I had so much shame around it. I felt inferior.”
“My ego took a hit, because I pride myself on being a healthy athlete. All of a sudden, you can't do the one thing that you really want to do and produce sperm,” he added.

Colton Underwood starts his new podcast
However, the former football player is now starting his new podcast, ‘Daddyhood’, which will air on February 21 on Spotify.
The aim of the podcast is reportedly to dismiss the shame associated with infertility. He stated, “I think that often gets swept under the rug—the human element. I know a lot of women get told, ‘Your chances of carrying to term are X percentage,’ and then, you start feeling like a number, and you start getting discouraged.”
“My goal here is just to humanize it. Everyone here that comes into the 'Daddyhood' studio and sits down with me and shares their story is deserving of their own individual journey,” he explained.
Underwood also asserted, “My greatest hope is that everybody will treat people with kindness and love and treat them as human beings. Everybody deserves a family—and we're trying our best.”
