PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND: Authorities investigating the deadly Brown University shooting are asking the public for help identifying a person seen near a key person of interest, as federal and local agencies intensify their search for the suspect

Providence Police, along with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, released enhanced images and surveillance footage on Wednesday, December 17, urging anyone who recognizes the individual to come forward. Investigators believe the person may have information relevant to the case and was seen in close proximity to the primary person of interest before and after the shooting.

The FBI announced a reward of up to $50,000 for information leading to the identification, arrest, and conviction of those responsible. Officials also released a detailed map outlining the confirmed movements of the person of interest on the day of the attack.

Authorities release images, seek public assistance in Brown University shooting probe

According to Providence Police, surveillance footage captured an unidentified individual near the university campus around the time of the shooting. Investigators stressed that the person is not currently labeled a suspect but may be a critical witness.



Enhanced photos shared by law enforcement show the individual walking near areas frequented by students and faculty. Police said speaking with this person could help establish a clearer timeline of events.



The FBI’s Boston field office confirmed it was offering a reward of up to $50,000 for credible information leading to an arrest. Officials said tips from the public could play a vital role in advancing the investigation.

Federal authorities released a short video clip alongside still images in hopes that someone would recognize the individual’s clothing, movements, or behavior.

Investigators also shared a map highlighting streets where the person of interest was confirmed to have been present on December 13. Streets marked in green indicated locations before the shooting, while red showed areas immediately afterward.

Police requested video footage from streets marked in blue, including Waterman Street, Thayer Street, Wickenden Street, and Gano Street, for any time on the day of the attack. Officials said even brief clips from doorbell cameras or businesses could prove useful.

The mass shooting occurred shortly after 4 p.m. on Saturday, December 13, inside a first-floor classroom of the Barus & Holley building on the Brown University campus. Students were preparing for final exams and the upcoming winter break at the time.

Authorities confirmed that two students were killed and nine others were injured. A 9 mm handgun was used in the attack, according to investigators.

Images and videos from nearby residential areas showed a man wearing dark clothing, a hat, and a dark surgical-style mask. His face was not clearly visible.

The incident drew national attention, including remarks from President Donald Trump, as law enforcement continued its search for the shooter and urged the public to assist with any information.
