Rachel Scott's live 'GMA' engagement announcement resonates with Robin Roberts' from last year
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Rachel Scott, the Senior Congressional Correspondent for ABC News and 'Good Morning America' shared the news of her engagement with Elliot Smith live on air during the January 8 episode of 'GMA.'
The announcement was made by co-host Robin Roberts in the presence of the other co-hosts George Stephanopoulos and Linsey Davis, who was filling in for Michael Strahan for the day. Scott is reportedly good friends with the anchors, reported The US Sun.
How did Robin Roberts break the news?
"Big news from our GMA family to kick off 2024: Our Rachel Scott is engaged!" exclaimed Roberts while welcoming the correspondent to the day's episode.
The stars and the crew broke into applause at the news, following which Roberts continued, "So... tell us how did Elliot, your fiance, pop the big question?"
"You know, I gotta admit, this one was a total surprise," responded Rachel. "We saw the gazebo with all the rose petals and the flowers. I actually thought it was there for someone else, I thought we were going to ruin someone else's engagement. It turned out to be my own."
She could barely contain her joyful laughter as she reminded everyone of another recent wedding which had the morning show team excited.
"So you said yes to marriage this time last year Robin," she continued. "And I am so excited to say yes to marriage this year. So please guys, send me all your newlyweds, all your engagement tips - we are taking it all."

Rachel was referring to Roberts marrying her longtime fiancee Amber Laign back in September 2023.
"Reckon I can actually give advice now," said Roberts gleefully, before complimenting the correspondent, "You are already glowing. Congratulations to you and Elliot. All the best."
"Congratulations. I'm so happy for you," chimed in Stephanopoulos at that point.
