Rapper Sauce Walka, known for hits like 'Big Amount' and 'Im Him', injured in deadly Memphis shooting

MEMPHIS, TENNESSEE: Houston rapper Sauce Walka was among two people shot in downtown Memphis, on Saturday, March 22, afternoon. 

According to the 34-year-old rapper’s family, Walka—whose real name is Albert Walker Mondane—was shot outside a hotel near the FedExForum in Memphis, Tennessee, on Saturday, March 22, TMZ reported.

Rapper Sauce Walka among 2 people shot in Memphis

According to Sauce Walka’s family members, the ‘Where My Soda?’ hitmaker, who was shot on Saturday, is currently undergoing treatment and is expected to recover. 

According to Memphis Police, the incident took place on Lt George W Lee Avenue near the FedEx Forum at around 2:42 pm, KHOU 11 reported.

The outlet further reported that another unidentified man, whose name has not yet been released, was killed during the shooting. 



 

Walka’s father Albert Walker—known to his fans as “Poppa Sauce”—revealed that his son was shot in the thigh and was transported to hospital. According to TMZ, the ‘5th Yard’ singer’s family said that the rapper was apparently not the target of the shooting. 

Poppa Sauce further revealed to KHOU 11 that his son is coherent and expected to recover from his injuries. 

"Had it not been for God, my son would've been dead," the rapper’s father told the outlet. 

Memphis cops say it was not act of 'random violence' 

The Memphis police said that it was not an act of “random violence,” and appears to be an isolated incident. While no arrests have been made yet, a suspect vehicle has been identified. 

“At approx. 2:42 pm today, officers responded to a shooting at 100 block of George W Lee Ave. One male was pronounced deceased, and another male was transported to the hospital in non-critical condition. This appears to be an isolated incident, not random violence. Officers have identified the suspect vehicle, and are actively working to make an arrest,” shared the police in a statement shared on Facebook. 



 

They further added, "We want to assure our community and visitors that downtown Memphis is a safe place. This incident was not a random act of violence. Early indications are that the victims and suspects are known to each other. We understand the public’s concern and reiterate that this was not a random act. MPD is committed to bringing those responsible to justice and will be utilizing downtown camera footage and other technology available to aid in identifying everyone involved."
