Ravens CB Marlon Humphrey calls Patrick Mahomes 'a chubby fast dude' in petty jab after loss to Chiefs
KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI: In the high-stakes world of NFL rivalries, a little shade never hurts, especially when it comes from a fierce competitor like Baltimore Ravens cornerback Marlon Humphrey.
Fresh off a 27-20 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in the season opener, Humphrey didn’t shy away from commenting on the challenge that is Patrick Mahomes—though his words were a mix of respect and veiled critique.
Marlon Humphrey gives Patrick Mahomes new nickname
On the latest episode of his 'Punch Line' podcast, Marlon Humphrey dissected the game and shared his thoughts on playing against the Chiefs, particularly Patrick Mahomes, who has been a consistent thorn in his side.
"It felt good to get out there, play some ball," Humphrey said, adding, "I've realized KC's one of the few stadiums I have not won a football game in. I think I've got three more."
According to Daily Mail, Humphrey acknowledged what many have come to accept: beating the Chiefs, and Mahomes in particular, is no easy task.
"It's hard to beat the Chiefs. Very tough to beat the Chiefs. So you wanted to get the dub, but it's hard to beat Mahomes," he admitted, but he didn’t stop there.
In a comment that had fans raising eyebrows, Humphrey described Mahomes as "a chubby fast dude" and marveled at his unorthodox playstyle.
"What makes him very good is he does some pretty wild stuff, which sometimes catches him but a lot of times he doesn't. He gets away with a lot just 'cause he's always willing to test it, willing to try it."
It’s not every day that an athlete is praised for their unpredictability while simultaneously being called chubby, but in Mahomes' case, the description almost feels like a badge of honor.
Humphrey went on to say, "I'm always amazed when he's outrunning people or juking people in the backfield, getting out of a sack and just launching the ball."
Marlon Humphrey and Patrick Mahomes reflect on realities of football
Reflecting on the grueling game, Marlon Humphrey candidly shared, "Honestly, to keep it a stack, I be dadgum happy when I finish a practice on two feet, honestly. So, it was good besides freakin' losing and getting back at 4:00am after a loss, which makes everything way worse. Other than that man, it's good to be back playing ball."
Mahomes, who has faced critiques about his physique before, has never been one to let the talk get to him. After a shirtless photo of him went viral following the Chiefs' AFC Championship win over Baltimore last season, Mahomes defended his body shape.
"I definitely have the dad bod a little bit," Mahomes confessed to TIME, but quickly added, "I'll also say I have a great body for a quarterback. You've got to have some padding in there to take the hits that we take."
And take the hits he does—both on and off the field. While Humphrey's words may have landed somewhere between a compliment and a dig, Mahomes and the Chiefs ultimately got the last laugh.

Late in the game, Humphrey gave up a critical touchdown on a blown coverage, allowing Chiefs rookie receiver Xavier Worthy to score with ease. Worthy’s second touchdown of the night sealed Kansas City’s victory, serving as the final nail in Baltimore’s coffin.
Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson nearly orchestrated a miraculous comeback, marching the team down the field for what could have been a game-winning drive.
But as fate would have it, tight end Isaiah Likely’s toe landed just out of bounds in the end zone as time expired, leaving the Ravens to lament another close call against a familiar foe.
